Moving is ROUGH.

Moving is Rough. Moving while pregnant is even rougher.  You may have seen little hints that we needed bigger digs on my Instagram or twitter channels.  I’ve not mentioned it much because, well, moving has taken a toll on me! We started staging the house in late January, just as the new year hit, and as our family skipped off to Beaches Turks and Caicos, the house went on the market.  While it was tough keeping a house in perfect condition with a toddler, dog, and cat, it was nice to never have a mess around.  Fortunately, the minor torture only lasted 2.5 weeks, when the house sold to a first time buyer family.  I was so happy! I had no idea how long the house would take to sell, as our neighborhood is incredibly stable and the housing market in Atlanta is finally starting to repair from the 2008 slump.

But this weekend, the movers showed up to usher us to our new digs.  THANK GOD for movers.  Or, at least, thank god my sweet, sweet husband let us pay for movers to schlep the entire contents of our house as well as our storage unit to the new house.  It took 5 men over 10 hours. We have a LOT of crap.  It was so hectic that when it came time for Red’s nap, there was only one soft surface in the house.  The dog bed.  So I laid him on it when he came back from my in-laws (thank you for watching him while we were working with the movers!!)

The first night was rough, since almost nothing but the bed was set up, and it was the worst night of sleep EVER.  The cat was wild and out-of-place, while Doo refused to stop barking at everything he wasn’t familiar with…. so there’s that.  Plus, we had a wiggly toddler in the middle of our bed, while we waited for his “big boy bed” to be delivered in the coming days.  During the day, we’re seeing this all around the house:

Boxes.  Also, more boxes.  And some more boxes to go with those boxes.  Occasionally, there’s some furniture and some unpacked items… but we’re getting there.  Unpacking and toting things around the house doesn’t work so well when you’re 6 months preggers (Already?! Sheesh, where is the time going?!)  Fortunately, my husband has been a CHAMP helping move things around so I can dig out of the boxes, and we already have killer neighbors, making us dinners and helping set up some rooms.  We even had one of Chase’s friends come over and slave for two hours helping hang two giant TV sets! We are some lucky, lucky people.

The upside of getting a new house? LOTS more space for our growing family and never-ending list of visitors, as well as fun new things to look forward to, like our very grown up, fancy-pants Butler’s Pantry. I’ve made sure to set up all our nice glassware and some of our more unique liquor bottles. I can’t wait until we’re all done and I can show ya’ll some of the cooler parts of the house!

After finally recovering from our epic Disney trip, now with unpacking facing me, I’m wondering when I’ll stop taking projects on – this work load is getting a little daunting and this pregnancy is passing quicker than I realize! 🙂 What are your favorite or most hated parts of moving?

The best decision for moving is to hire a movers. We did it ourselves once, and hired movers twice after that. Best decision EVER! LOL

Ick. I HATE moving. I was never so happy as when the hubby and I bought our house because we knew we wouldn’t be moving again for a LONG while. And the best investment in that process was hiring the movers to get everything to the new place.

Movers are the BEST help. THE BEST. We packed ourselves, but I would pay it twice for the load/unload!

We always seem to move days after I have had a baby! W baby number two, we closed the day, I repeat the day I was released.. a day early. . from the hospital. I cried after we signed the papers even though I should have been jumping for joy. I needed my pain meds. Then we moved to San Antonio 2 weeks after my daughter was born. Rough living.

Thank you! We’re two weeks in, now, and it’s going pretty well! No decor yet, but way less boxes!

You did a great job! I can’t imagine what it is to move while pregnant! For me the worst about moving is the whole packing and organizing the process. This is the most stressful for me! The best is may be when unpacking and make the new pace feel like home! Thanks you for sharing! Greets, Moving Man Ltd.
