Mulan Disneybound Looks

Know who you are on the inside. Mulan teaches us to look inward and to be confident in who we are. No one rescues her. She doesn’t need saving. Instead, she saves her entire country. And connects her friends while doing it. If there’s a strong female role model that we should examine, it’s Fa Mulan. In honor of the live-action release as well as the 22nd anniversary of the classic Disney animated film, I’ve gathered Mulan’s six costumes and created four Mulan Disneybound looks to convey her strength.

Mulan Looks

Mulan Disneybound

These Disneybound boards were created on the ShopLook platform (follow me here!) which I recently found following the death of Polyvore. Polyvore is where I made my Black Panther look and Darla looks before everything went away. Now I am falling back down the rabbit hole into fun fashion. These four Mulan Disneybounds ought to be comfortable as well as functional while traipsing around the Parks.

Mulan Home Look Disneybound

Mulan spends some time at home making tea for her Father and doing chores around the house (along with help from Little Brother). On her way to see her father at the family sanctuary, you get a glimpse of Mulan in her home look. While many of the storybooks and social media images incorrectly display her skirt as yellow, we’ll go with a light butter to split the difference between the true cream and the storybook yellow.

Carry a Mulan bag and little brother with you to hint at the character you’re Disney bounding as. Mulan has so many outfits, it’s not always obvious.

Mulan Matchmaker Disneybound

Mulan’s Matchmaker outfit is very well known. After her clumsy showing at the presentation, Mulan goes home to regroup and realize that she must be true to herself. This Disneybound gathers her core elegant colors together and gives a nod to the title character with a bag and hair barrette the looks like Mulan’s comb.

Mulan Warrior Disneybound

Warrior Mulan is one of my favorites. She saves her commander, shows an entire army what strength and perseverance look like, all while seeing her goal ahead of her. Pair gray denim with powerful boots and Jian sword earrings. A printed scarf and layered tunic lend similar silhouettes to your look that appear in Mulan’s armor. Hang Mushu around your neck to complete the look.

Imperial Mulan Disneybound

The Imperial Mulan Disneybound is a fun look, not often seen represented. Relegated to the role of a traditional woman by her compatriots, Mulan instead finds strength in her own and individuality. Note the fan necklace she uses to defeat Shan Yu and the addition of her sidekicks on your fingers.

Live-Action Mulan Activity Packet

Now for the fun part. This MULAN 2020 Activity packet, while stylish, is best suited for tweens and older children. There is a LOT of reading, and it’s more of a centering journal and thoughtful activity packet rather than coloring pages, or mazes. Older girls and boys looking for personal meditation may really enjoy it!

You can catch both the classic animated Mulan (1998) and Live Action Mulan (2020) on Disney+. Leave me a comment about your next Mulan Disneybound!
