The Perfect Earl Gray Tea

I’ve always been a big tea drinker.  Loose leaf, bagged, and even pre-made blends are all a part of my Southern diet! Heck, I even featured vintage teapots filled with flowers at my wedding reception and personalized tea bags were my favors! (You might say that I’m a tea lover).  With the New Year in full swing, I’m trying to stick to reducing the sugars in my diet.  But that’s not easy for a Southern tea drinker like me.  Hot or cold, I like it sweet!  Challenging myself to find other options is always easy if I feel pampered or have a special project, so what better than a hot tea bar with alternatives to my sugar?

I spoke with my OB, and she said that a stevia-leaf, natural sweetener is a good choice for me, and I am very happy to have a natural, smarter substitute as I reduce my sugars. I also learned that Truvia lets you try their product before you buy it! How many products are open to that kind of customer service?

How to Make the Perfect Earl Gray Tea #SweetWarmUP
My latest feat of hot tea making is the perfect Earl Gray Tea.  With just a few tweaks to my tea prep, I’ve mastered the art of Earl Gray so well that my husband now drinks a few a day! I never thought I’d see that.

How to make the perfect Earl Gray tea:

1. Use boiling water; a hot temperature is important to bring out the most flavor in your tea, but over boiling can make your tea fall flat.  I use the hot water feature on my Keurig for the perfect brew each time.
2. A true Englishman would tell you to remove all the strings and tags from a tea bag, as this may mar the flavor (but I’ve been keeping the string hanging for years… outside the cup!).  Add your Bigelow tea bag immediately and steep for two minutes only. An over-steeped tea can be bitter.
3. Add one packet of Truvia for a zero-calorie, natural sweetener, and a dash of local honey for warmth. (As a result of learning how to make the perfect Earl Gray, my husband now loves this #SweetWarmUp and drinks a few a day!)

Now that you have your perfect Earl Gray down, feature it in a Hot Tea Bar so houseguests can help themselves to a Sweet warm up!  Set out a choice of  Tea bags (make sure to have that Earl Gray handy!) Sweetener packets neatly tucked into a ceramic holder, lemon, honey, and some fancy teacups.  Your guests will be impressed with the Bigelow tea selection and love saving calories with Truvia!

Yay for saving calories. I usually sweeten my teas with honey!

Totally an option. I’ve been known to go through a bottle in a week if I’m sick!

I’m not a huge tea drinker but there are definitely times that call for tea and I’m happy to participate in those!!! I had no idea the string & tag were taboo! 😉

I didn’t either for a long time, but the purists swear by removing them!

I would never have thought that Truvia would have been approved by your OB that is GREAT to know. I love tea too all kinds. I really love English Breakfast Tea. One of my favs. I use my Keurig for boiling water too! It is just SO much faster.
