The time came for my little VW Passat to move on. I originally got the car from my brother when we nobly went into the Coast Guard and moved to his new post in Anchorage, AK. The car wouldn’t survive the trip allllll the way to AK, so he gave it to me, I sold my car and gave him the money from that transaction. Which left me with this little baby:
I really did love this car. This car brought home our little Dooley as a puppy. It drove us to our honeymoon after we were married:
And even toted around little Red when he was first born. (Wish I had taken a picture!!!) It has been a wonderful, awesome, great car – with one fault. That baby was expensive to maintain. Everytime I took it in, it was at least $1000 to fix whatever was wrong. Oil Changes (due to synthetic oil) were at least $60 per. So, this past month, when it broke yet again, we took it in. The check engine light pointed to at least 10 problems. Some of them covered by warranty, some not. crap-ola.
So we decided to get out of the car. This money could be better spent, on say, a NEW car. We had been shopping a little before, so Hubs and I knew what we wanted. This big guy.
The Jeep Patriot is touted by Clark Howard as the most affordable family SUV over the course of purchase and its lifetime. So we test drove it and Hubs nearly keeled over in love. It reminded him of his old 4-Runner. After MUCH haggling and pricing, we got what we wanted.

And it was a bittersweet deal for me. We got an excellent price on the trade in, but I was sad to see the Passat leave. We had been through so much. But it was time to go. I even got a little teary for it. After a visit to (dummm dumm dummmmmm) the financial office, we were ready to go!
Since I’ll be driving the car most of the time, Hubs got to drive it home. And he loved it. Red loved it too. He got to look out the large back window and the sunroof the whole way, jabbering to himself. (Sorry for the glare!)
All in all, yes, I do miss my old car, but this new one is badass! Makes for a happy ending.
