Happy 3rd Birthday, Red!

Happy Birthday, Red! Your Cinco de Mayo yearly celebration has come again, and I can hardly believe it.  You’re THREE today!
Octonauts Party Redhead Baby Mama
We had Red’s birthday party (a small gathering of friends and family) Sunday to celebrate, and true to the oldest cliche, had pizza and ice cream.  And that was about it! It was super simple; balloons and crepe paper with our own toys as decor – almost an anti-pinterest party.  And let me tell you, it was the first party in 5 years where I wasn’t stressed out of my mind.  Maybe it was because it was a small party, that I didn’t go overboard on a theme, that the food was super simple, or maybe it’s that I started an Isagenix program this weekend and it’s calmed me the heck down (more on that later).
Either way, our guests LOVED our ice cream bar instead of a traditional birthday cake. I made a pan of brownies to toss in with bananas, caramel, fudge, sprinkles, gummi bears, whipped cream and cherries.  It was a DIY sort of thing, and people really cleaned their plates!

See the balloons and crepe paper? And the leftover birthday sign from last year? I added the Dollar Tree tablecloths and netting from the “seasonal” dollar section and with an octopod, voila!: instant tablescape.  Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

One thing I did order was Red’s Octonauts pinata.  And it was totally worth it.  Hubs held it up at a toddler approved level, and all the kids took turns pulling on strings to release the candy.  Red’s cousin was the big winner and ripped the smarties and suckers loose for collection.  You can actually buy the Octonauts Pinata here.

The best thing about a pinata is the candy ‘spolsion, but the worst thing about it is the “terrible mess” according to Red.  He promptly tried to stuff all the leftover candy BACK into the pinata…  I guess I could have a worse problem on my hands… 🙂

But Red did get a kick out of sharing the pinata with everyone and playing with it like it was a real octopod.  Grandmartha and Granddaddy were happy to listen to Red jabber all about it.

And despite Red’s extreme busyness to play, greet, share, and play some more, I did get one picture of us together. I wish he would have cooperated with Daddy and me for a shot, but “don’ wan’ it!” tantrums aside, I’ll take what I can get.   You, my little man; my Redheaded Boy, challenge me, entertain me, exhaust me and best of all, love me.  I couldn’t ask for a sweeter guy.  Happy Birthday!

How fun! I’m trying to convince my sister to have a non-Pinterest party for my nephew’s 2nd, but I don’t think she’s going to listen! And how fun to find another Atlanta blogger!

I love getting ‘all themed out’ aka ‘all Pinterested out’ but DANG these simple old fashioned parties are the best! 99.9% stress free! That is an awesome idea about adding brownies to the ice cream bar… We had a summer ice cream party last summer and I would have loved to think of doing brownies w it!!! My daughter has her party in 2 weeks and I am so not making it a pin party!

Such a cute birthday boy! At that age, laid back parties are the way to go, I think. There’s plenty of time to stress out over party planning when they are school age 🙂
