I’m the Boss of Me

As a member of the Outshine summer campaign, I received incentives in exchange for participating in brand related activities and spreading the word about Outshine Fruit Bars as a work from home snack. #SnackBrighter

For the last eight years, I’ve owned my own business.  Right after I graduated from UGA, I filed for my LLC and officially started my own company.  Of course, this was “on the side” at that point, as I was teaching costume design and makeup to students on the college and high school level.  But after my short-lived stint in supply teaching was over, I finally became my own boss.

Being your own boss has some serious pros and cons.  For instance, you have to be extremely disciplined to meet deadlines, arrange for projects, and even seek work to flesh out your paycheck, but you also get to create your own calendar and stock your “work fridge*” with whatever you want. (*Um, the work fridge doesn’t really exist… it’s just the snack section I keep in the kitchen, but we all can dream, right!?!)  When Red turns to me and asks for cake for breakfast, I’m obliged as a parent to say no and offer a healthier option, but as a grown up, I can do that, right?  Well, I might not ever actually do that, but it’s nice to think about having that freedom to choose.

Being my Own Boss Means I Get Snacks Whenever I Want. #snackbrighter

It took me a long time to find that balance of work and home.  For instance, I’m the main caretaker of the home, a costume designer, a blogger, an artist, a mom and basically the glue for our family.  I am so proud of what I do, but I needed to find out when I could edit photos, design a dress and host a conference call that wasn’t the family dinner table or the carpool pickup line.  I learned to keep work in certain areas of my home and to make sure I was attending to what was most important at any given time.

I have lots of help because being my own boss also means knowing when to delegate.  Do I need help cleaning? Maybe I need a mommy’s helper for a few hours while I write?  Maybe Red and I can have a snack together and catch up on what he’s thinking about while those photos download? It’s all in the balance.

I work from home... and it's glorious to be my own boss!

Speaking of balance, on most mornings, I’m so focused on finding that balance of family activities and work deadlines that I’m not getting more than a half cup of yummy coffee with my breakfast.  It’s hard for me to ignore that campaign email that came in overnight, but I know I have to get Red off to school, Scarlett settled and dressed and playing before I can tend to much else.Frozen Dessert... outshine frozen fruit bars! #snackbrighter

I find myself catching up during my 3pm recharge break, over a delicious snack option like an Outshine Fruit Bar.  Helping me to shine brighter from the inside, Outshine made improvements to 8 of its most popular flavors and has added an average of 77% more real fruit or fruit juice and has reduced sugar by an average of 11%.  Add in the fact that each fruit bar is made with no GMO ingredients and I’m loving this better-for-me option that can also cool me down from the Atlanta heat.

For my Work from home summer snack: Outshine frozen fruit bars! #snackbrighter

Since Outshine is my official work from home snack, I’m collecting my favorite flavors in my freezer like Strawberry, Lime, and even a few simply yogurt bars.  It’s what I’m snagging first when I’m hungry (despite my regular 3pm break or not!) between tasks.  Find your favorite flavor near you with the store locator.  How do you best delegate your own work? What’s your favorite part of being your own boss?

I have had those Strawberry bars before and they are so delicious!! I normally don’t like things with fruit pieces in them either. (Weird I know lol)!

I understand completely about the pieces. The fruit bars are so “soft” and creamy that they are the perfect treat for me. So yummy!

It feels good to own your own business. We’re in the process of making this happen for ourselves and it’s exciting to be your own boss, it’s like an extra sense of fulfillment. Outshine bars look and sound like a great healthy cold snack for these hot summer days. I’m craving the lime flavor right now. I like that the sugar has been reduced.

Thanks to Costco, I think my freezer is actually dubbed the Outshine drawer. It’s stocked with these yummy treats!

Being your own boss is amazing because, like you said you can do what you want at any given time. It feels great to have that kind of freedom. These popsicles look really yummy! It’s definitely the perfect snack in between work.

Love these fruit bars and always have them stocked in my freezer. I too work from home, and always feel that 3pm lull after a long day of work. Although my work balance is still a work in progress.

I know how that goes wearing all the hats in the family. I work from home as well and lost my husband recently which means I have to be everything.

It can be hard to find the right balance when you work from home. I st an alarm to remind me when it is time to shut down the computer for the day. I will have to pick up some Outshine Fruit Bars to try.
