Sustainable Workout Clothes

Thank you to prAna for the complimentary, sustainable workout clothes of my choice. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sometimes, I can be downright stylish. My hair tended to and my S&D on my ears, I can feel like a million bucks, ready to take on the world. Other times (most, maybe?!) I’m donning my old, worn out workout pants and old race shirts. That can get kind of tired, but workout clothes tend to be a type of uniform for me, allowing me to stay comfortable as I work through my week, hopefully catching sight of the elliptical and my beloved Zumba classes. As I pulled out my oldest 5k shirt from the drawer, (a unisex non-flattering item) I thought that there had to be a better way.

I remember last fall at the gym when I was frozen solid after a workout, I stepped into the air-conditioned hallway and shivered. My bestie, Krystyn, lent me her Marin pullover top that had a cozy neckline and textured stripes. I was grateful, and then seconds later, really impressed. The pullover top was soft, roomy where it needed to be, and just warm enough for me to want to pilfer it into my bag and into the parking lot, where I would never be seen again!! (evil laugh) But I knew Krystyn loved it, so I washed and returned it immediately. Well, almost immediately, after I snuck a peek at the tag, seeing “prAna” scrawled on an attractive clothing label.

Huh. This stuff looked pretty good. I needed to check it out. I learned more about the prAna company, and it’s amazing messages and directives. prAna offers organic, hemp, sustainable, and fair trade items so that consumers feel great about the things they wear. Take, for instance, prAna’s personal manifesto:  prAna isn’t in the business of making clothes, they’re in the business of setting the adventurous spirit free. They design with a purpose to inspire their audience to do as they will. They distill trends, fit, style, and performance to satisfy their audience’s basic needs, then get the hell out of the way so they can enjoy their own brand of experiences. Okay then, I’m in. If I can feel comfortable in sustainable workout clothes, this needs to be a part of my closet. Organic matters more and more nowadays.

While browsing the prAna site for silhouettes that worked with my body shape and personal style, I found a lot of fashion fodder. The recycled, fair trade certified and hemp sustainable workout clothes are eco-friendly, look good, and are versatile enough for all of my activities.  I could easily catch lunch with a friend and then hit the gym without blinking an eye! To outfit my fall adventures, I chose the Deco Crop in Dragonfly, a glowing teal color that matches my energy, as well as the Penelope Pullover in Laquered Rose.

The 60% Organic Cotton and 40% Polyester cowl-necked pullover was perfection. It featured a shirttail hem, lower in the back to hide anything that I didn’t want to share and had long sleeve cuffs that felt perfect for chilly weather. It was loose and roomy without feeling slouchy. I credit the detailed neckline for that!

The Deco crops were fitted, with a criss-cross design at the yoke hem. I found the Nylon/Spandex blend to be just as smoothing and supportive as other brands, but the unique color and detailing set it apart. I wish the yoke waistband had been slightly more angled since I have a wider hipline than my waistline. I found a small gap that may not have held up to the most stringent of workouts but would have been more than fine for yoga, elliptical runs, my daily jaunts around the town.

After my first outfit pick, I know I’ll be choosing more prAna to fill my drawers. After all, if the form and function are there, it should be an easy switch to add a more conscious choice like sustainable workout clothes.  That’s the easy part! If you want to try prAna out for yourself, the fair trade certified company sent along a prAna discount code, especially for you: TMF17LP.  The prAna promo code can be used for 15% off an entire order with prAna, should be used before October 19, and is not valid on sale items. Get yourself something comfortable to channel your stylish energy and move forward!

I love how comfortable these workout clothes look. The fact that they are mostly cotton also must contribute to how easy it is to wear them.
