A visit from GrandMartha

Last weekend, our family met up with extended family and super-extended family (think cousins of cousins, etc) for a family reunion that happens once a year.  It takes place on this beautiful family farm and folks bring dishes, pot-luck style.  GrandMartha’s desserts, Pop’s Mac ‘n cheese, and always, ALWAYS… someone brings a bucket of KFC.  I’m not even sure who it is, but by the time I make it to the end of the family buffet table… there it is.  After we stuff ourselves silly with the best food you can get outside of Thanksgiving, we head to the pastures to see ponies, mules, goats, chickens and turkeys.

Riding Ponies at the Family Farm

Please note that Red dressed himself that day, complete with superhero cape and mask.  He told me he wanted to ride a pony with his cape flying in the background, “like a superhero does.”  Well, who am I to argue with a child that dressed himself?  Nope. Picking my battles. This was not one of them. 🙂

We were extra lucky this weekend because GrandMartha, fresh off her trip from Europe, was coming to our house for a few days so we could love on her.  She was also excited to have some serious one-on-one time with each of the kids.  Red had tons of books to share, sight words to practice with this natural teacher, and of course… he had to show her every toy he’s ever owned!  GrandMartha was a trooper. GrandMartha

Scarlett, on the other hand, always wanted to be in GrandMartha’s lap or near her, laughing and singing songs in Spanish.  She was even singing some of the words back to us by the end of GrandMartha’s visit.  GrandMartha

GrandMartha also loves baseball… Red was on a real T-ball league team this season, so she joined us for a game on the bleachers to cheer Red on.  He was so happy she was there, he hit and ran a triple!

GrandMartha

I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to have her come and stay with us for a few days.  I hope it happens again, soon. We love you, GrandMartha! <3

It’s a relief… but I’ll have to admit the cape was a surprise!
