This craft is WAY too late for Easter 2013, as in PAST DUE. But I did have the basket liner finished before the Easter bunny visited and it was a super cute addition to our egg hunts and festivities. If you’re looking to make a pretty spring basket or a liner for an existing Easter basket, check out my graphic!
I have a small Longaberger basket that was my Easter basket when I was a kid. Mom dug it out and we’ve assigned it to Red. It is still in amazing shape (great company work!) but it needed a little something.
Using about a half yard of polka dot sage fabric, I wrapped it around the bottom of the basket, taking four easy darts (one at each corner), and sewing down the sides. It was very imperfect.
After doing that, I placed the liner inside the basket, trimmed the bulk of the excess flowing over the top of basket edge.
I then tediously created pleated trim on the ironing board (when I could have easily done a ruffle) since it seemed more manly. I stitched that to the liner top, smoothed it out and voila, a basket liner in 30 minutes! Next year, I’ll add a wide ribbon tie with Red’s name embroidered on the side. Let me know if you end up trying this yourself, and how it turned out!
