Two weeks ago, Hubs and I went kayaking down the Broad River with some friends. The night before, we were all child-free and felt a little squirrelly, so we hit up the Athens bar scene with all the twenty-somethings (we were SOOOO the old people in the bar) and had some bevvies. It was awesome, weird and comforting to be in all of our old haunts, some of them renovated, flipped, and under new management. Others were just as we remembered them; same drink offerings and 1″ thick grime from years of bar-love.
What really grabbed my attention? This sandwich board sign tucked inside the door to an old renovated bar. The old “Arch Bar” had a happy hour… and it was right MEOW. I was sold. I dragged Hubs in by the arm and plunked myself down. If you have seen Super Troopers, you’ll know why it grabbed me.
And then I made him order a cat beer. It was good meow. Really good.
Any good cocktails where you are?
Sounds like you and your hubby had a great time! I’ve never had a Cat Beer before. Might have to try it someday. 🙂
It is fun to go to the old haunts once in awhile. Glad you had a nice time out and about!
Its always nice to visit places you used to go.Sounds like you had a great time.Never heard of that beer before.
I’ve just started to get into IPAs, there are so many interesting tasting ones out there. There are still a few old haunts I visit – they take me back to happy times!
It is so nice to just unwind sometimes. That beer can character cracks me up!
I love date nights. It is especially good when you have good drinks!
Cat beer? This I’ve got to try! Love that you had a night on the town. You oldies still have a bit of life left in ya.
I love the IPA Beer! The sign with $1 off everything is also pretty darn hot!!
Hey- that is my drink! #almost famous! I had a great time getting the Paris’ tour of the Athen’s bar district!
I have never seen this brand of beer. Might have to see if I can find it up here!
Asheville is full of craft beer. I’m a fan of rum, so I don’t quite fit into our scene! 😉
Meow what is so damn funny? Do I look like a cat to you, boy? Am I jumpin’ around all nimbly bimbly from tree to tree? Yea, safe to say I got the reference clearly.
I’ll be in the Asheville area next month! I’m going to try to take the hubs over there for a meow, I mean drink!
Yay for being kiddo free! Glad you got to enjoy the night 🙂
It is nice to get out sometimes without the kids and let your hair down
I have never been to this place. I enjoyed getting to know it through your words and photos.
I don’t have any kids, but I’m at that age (almost 30) where I stay home more often than not. When I go out to my old haunts, it’s totally weird but awesome at the same time! haha
I’m nervous about trying any IPAs… the first and last one I tried was not very good at all! The can of that one is pretty cool, though!
Had a delicious Blvd Wheat beer tonight with dinner. Hit the spot!!
Too funny, hitting the scene again and seeing all the young people to make ya feel old. Awesome to be kid free though, glad you had a good time!
That cat bear is hilarious! I always feel like you can’t say no to a cold drink in the summer!
I’m glad you had a good time. I haven’t don this in forever.
Beer in a can is just better. I am not into IPAs, but that can is hysterical!
My husband and I need to utilize our live-in babysitter before she goes away to college. Soon we’ll have to pay a real sitter to watch our kids
I love trying new craft beers. I would have definitely opted for the Fat Cat too!
Cocktail hours are the best! Many a date night at a savings during them!
How much fun! You need a night away from the kids every here and there.
Looks like a blast! It’s always good to have a date night with your honey!
