An Unexpected Love Letter

During a layabout couch session as we awaited the birth of Scarlett, I was depending on my computer to entertain my bump and I.  Scrolling through Facebook, playing puzzle games and googling pregnancy concerns was the best I had in front of me, because let’s face it, no effort required.  I casually mentioned my excitement to my husband, laying across from me, about a new ambassadorship I was extending, and he smiled and congratulated me. We went about our business…

Several minutes later, I had a new email pop into my inbox:

Dearest Lindsey,

As we begin this next stage of our life I would like to extend our relationship by signing on to a new ambassadorship for a period of no less than 18 years. We feel that this move is mutually beneficial as we’ve seen nothing but enrichment since we began our first ambassadorship 7-8 years ago, despite only having a brief arrangement years prior.

We hope you’ll consider extending this ambassadorship as we have offered. Please see below for proposed compensation. We happily await your consideration!

Extended Ambassadorship Compensation:
– Continued financial, physical, and emotional support in our existing campaign (circa 2011 He’s referring to Red!).
– 50% of net profits (though you will share in 50% of the tax liability).
– Sustenance assistance in the form of grocery shopping, food preparation, and the administering of bottles/formula.
– A flexible sleep/nap schedule that you can form to your liking, so long as effort is made to schedule in advance (however we will allow the occasional spontaneous push out of bed when you reach the point of exhaustion).
– Unwavering support in both campaigns and a united front in all efforts.
– Equal partner in domestic matters.
– Counseling in professional matters; acting upon said counseling is at the sole discretion of the receiving party.
– Easement of physical pain when necessary, including but not limited to: foot/leg/back/shoulder massages, ointment application, and the application of medicine (aka pilling the cat).
– Finally – all the love, attention, admiration, and idol worship that we, as an entity, are capable of giving.

If you have other terms you’d like to discuss before finalizing our agreement please respond in kind.

With love, Chase

My husband wrote me a love letter before the birth of our second child, all formatted like a contract extension - it was a fun, sweet surprise! via @redheadbabymama

Of course, my clever husband was referring to the impending birth and “extending” our relationship for the next 18 years.  How sweet is that? All formatting like an official agreement. Adorable.  Despite being a “creative” person, sometimes I don’t have the brain for this.  It was like the time I went on a trip with my Mom for 4 days and the only written communication we had was in limerick form. I kid you not, it was SO HARD for my brain, but I loved it.  My husband’s the best.  So, I wrote back, trying my best not to giggle my head off:

To my partner in all endeavors:

I humbly accept your generous and thoughtful proposal presented in the previous email.  I agree that our contract/ ambassadorship has been mutually beneficial and enriching following not only our initial joint venture in 2008 (our wedding date!) but also our pre-trial period beginning May 17th 2008 (adoption of the Doo), the existing campaign of 2011 (Red again), and the addition of our smallest entity in August of 2012 (adoption of Kitty).  I can’t tell you how much the entire team means to me.

Your prospective compensation is more than generous, as it is well above my previous requested rates and beyond the scale of my current qualifications.  As the final “paperwork” comes due in the next 7 days, please know that I happily accept your proposal.

I love you, Lindsey

Have you ever been sweetly surprised by something so silly and wonderful? My husband has been the most supportive, loving thing I could have ever asked for during this uncomfortable pregnancy. Chase, you’re the best. Thank you for all you do. I humbly and happily accept the love letter contract extension 😉

That is a pretty lovely contract. I would happily accept such a proposal if sent it from a similar contracting firm.

I love this. My husband sent me chocolate covered fruit the other day with a super sweet note.

They are the best though when you feel crappy and huge from being pregnant!

Your husband is so sweet! I think the exchange between the two of you is so adorable! My husband surprises me on occasion by telling me how much he appreciates me although I don’t see myself as doing much. I guess cause I often do things without thinking about it. It’s nice to be appreciated.
