What It’s Like at Atlanta Braves Summer Camp

Did you know you could spend a week in the summer playing with the Atlanta Braves baseball team?  Well, at least your kids can.  Red was hosted for a 5-day long Atlanta Braves summer camp to learn to hone his baseball skills, self-empowerment and to set his own goals.  Here is a recap of Red’s summer camp experience with the Braves and what you can expect when your children sign up for camp (yes, baseball is for girls, too!).  What it's like at the Atlanta Braves Summer Camps

Day one of camp had Red showing up to our local camp-site (a high school in our area with a rather nice baseball complex) to see trailers of Braves supplies, uniformed camp coaches, and many other campers.  Red wore just a short and t-shirt set, but brought his baseball bag with packed lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, baseball glove and bat.  Right there, on site, Red was given a full Braves uniform, which included jersey, baseball pants, socks, belt and hat. He was looking super official, and feeling like a star!  Camp runs from 9am to 3pm.

Days two and three were highly rewarding in terms of Red’s feedback.  He told me all about his new friends, his coaches and the “baseball games” he played during the day.  His second day home from camp left him wiped, as it was a warm day and his endurance hadn’t quite caught up with the camp schedule.  But, despite his exhaustion, he was very excited to show me his exclusive wristband that he received for “good listening.  It also means I’m the line leader!”  The knit band designated him team captain all week for his small team of age-similar kids.  He was incredibly proud.

Day four asked Red to reflect on his personal goals and to complete a small homework assignment.  Each camper was given branded eye blacks to write goals on.  As odd as they may have been, I let Red choose his own goals after talking about various options and what it meant to have a goal.  He chose “Focus” and “Catching.”  Focusing on our teacher/directions/task has been part of our work this summer to make Red more self-efficient and gain more responsibility around the house.

Red’s fifth and final day of camp asked him to bring a completely disposable lunch and water bottle, and to wear sneakers instead of cleats.  No baseball backpack, but only his personal baseball glove.  That meant one thing; a field trip to Turner Field to see the Braves and play catch on the outfield.  He’s even going to meet a current Braves player or perhaps an alumni for a meet and greet.

Red’s asked me if he can keep going to Braves camp “all of the days!”  In Red speak, that means he loves and it and wants to go back! While we will have to wait for the 2017 summer camp season to roll around to head to another Atlanta Braves summer camp, we will be able to head to the stadium to watch the Braves play their last season at Turner Field.  Our Atlanta family loves the Braves and this summer camp experience was awesome for Red!

If your kids wants to participate in baseball camp with the Braves, signing them will allow them to receive the following: 4 days of baseball instruction (no experience required!), day-long visit to Turner Field, meet and greet with a current Braves player/alumni and the chance to play catch in the Turner Field outfield.  Here’s what’s included in your camp tuition:

  • Campers feel like true all-stars in their full Braves camp baseball uniform
  • Campers also receive two lower level tickets to a select Braves home game
  • Parents/guardians have the opportunity to select extended day options if needed
  • Our camps have locations/dates in Marietta, Peachtree City, Atlanta, Marietta and Cumming
  • Our camp is based on “The Super Six” philosophy which includes messages about expressing yourself, optimism, resiliency, self-efficacy, hope and goal setting, and grit and determination
  • Camps are open to boys and girls ages 5-13, groups are divided by rising grade in school
  • Camp Tuition: $449, which includes two lower level Braves tickets.  There is a 5% sibling discount for camps.

There are TWO CAMPS LEFT for the 2016 season: July 18 – July 22 in Atlanta, GA (The Westminster Schools)  and July 25 – July 29 Cumming, GA (Pinecrest Academy).   For more information on Atlanta Braves Summer Camps, please call 404-682-0709 or visit www.braves.com/camps.  Our session of Atlanta Braves Summer Camp was given to us in return for review and publicity.  I’m a member of the Braves Bloggers for the 2016 season!

So glad JaMonkey got to do camp with Red! He is the sweetest. He kept coming over to tell her hi and that he loved her…lol Every time I saw him too he was having a blast! My kiddo had a ton of fun too. I was nervous about the lack of girls but she had a blast and didn’t mind one bit! She wants to join a softball team now.

That’s awesome. I have friends who do Cal Ripken’s camp and also one that is in Cooperstown. It’s always fun to do camps that are your passion. Looks like lots of fun!

When we lived in Atlanta, the kids were too young for the Braves summer camp. What a fun way to get the kids to be involved in their favorite sport!

It sounds like a great experience for young boys especially if they love the sport! They’ll learn a lot of things here as well, aside from that, they’ll be motivated to learn more about the sport!

Our week at Braves Camp was a huge learning experience for A.J.
He’d never played baseball before, so there was a bit of a learning curve. But once he got the hang of things there was no stopping him!
I can’t wait for him to go back next year.
