I’m a stressful feeder. I’m a stressful feeder because I don’t like messes, I hate rushing, and when I feel like I don’t have a handle on the meal coming together at the perfect moment (ugh, I forgot to warm the spaghetti sauce AGAIN!), it sends a slight panic into my heart. Perhaps it’s my inner perfectionist reaching forth, but I get all nervous when a baby makes a mess in their highchair, too. I’m following behind them with an army of wipes, crumb catchers, and enough bibs to outfit every cousin our family has ever had… at the same time. When Scarlett starts to grunt in my direction at breakfast, I saddle her into our family’s green highchair, buckle the webbed belt, and velcro an enormous bib under her chin. Now that Scarlett is settling into her mealtimes with finger foods, textures, and flavors, exploration takes hold and it’s often quite a mess!
Despite all the cleaning up, I love mealtime with my kids. I remember some of my favorite moments with Red and Scarlett in the highchair. When Red used to splash his applesauce and then try to feed me, it was really endearing, and when Scarlett pulls the spoon away from her face to double check the colors and textures, I see her personality take hold. It’s the small things and special moments during breakfast, lunch, and dinner that enhance our mama-baby bonding, and that’s what I hold dear. These last nine months have been filled with those moments of bottle feeding, baby weaning, textures, and silly laughs; our mealtimes run the gamut of emotions! See for yourself in this video that truly captures our months introducing Scarlett to solid foods:
What are some of your favorite feeding moments with your kids?
I am very pleased to announce that I will be working with Beech-Nut during 2016 as a sponsored ambassador, sharing Scarlett’s journey to solid foods and shedding some light on the #BabysFirstFoods process. Come and share a bite to eat!

I used to love feeding my boys when they were babies. It was such fun to watch them learn to use a spoon and feed themselves.

I remember those days. My favorite is when my son took his bologna and stuck it all over his chest. He was so proud of himself.

I always loved feeding my kids. They were always willing to try new things. Even after I gave them stuff like lemons. LOL

OMG, that’s the cutest picture ever! I can’t think of anything more adorable than a big baby smile after a big smooch from mom or dad.

This is so sweet. I definitely remember some of the messier moments. There were plenty of good moments too.

What a sweet picture. I remember how wonderfully chaotic feeding time was when my children were small. I had three under the age of two and it was quite and adventure..one I wouldn’t change for the world.

What a great program to be a part of, man I miss those baby days! Such a cutie! Beech-Nut is great too 🙂

Oh gosh what a QTPie and those bottom teeth! Precious.
Kiddo came in to my life when she was 3, so we were pretty much over the baby stages and it was all adult food for the most part. Even though her father and I split recently, I still enjoy meal times with her and they are even more special now.

Congrats on working with Beechnut. It’ll be fun watching baby try all the yummy meals. We’ll be on breast milk for a few more months , but I can’t wait to see my baby try solids. I think I have quite a little eater on my hands.

Congratulations! Your kid’s so cute, I can imagine how it was like when you were describing your feeding moments. I’m a stressful eater by the way, but I can relate a lot.

This is a fun post. I remember my 7yr old niece having some moments while eating (she still has them!).
I liked your video and the way the wording materialized onto the screen.

I loved watching my kids try new foods when they were little. The look on their face when they tried pickles for the first time was priceless.

My favorite memory of feeding my littles was when they would fall asleep in their highchairs. I feel that way…so exhausted from eating you just couldn’t do it anymore.

I was totally a stressful feeder to my babies too! But they both turned out perfect, despite my anxiousness
