With less than two weeks to go until my “D-Day” (scheduled C-section) I figured it was about time I shared a peek at Baby Girl’s Nursery. And, to be honest with you, I snapped these with my phone during the brightest part of the day (bad photographer!!) and tried to correct them a little on the computer. But when you’re feeling like a giant blob of jello, melting in the heat under the weight of your own gut, you don’t feel sorry about it. Not one lick. #SorryNOTSorry
The only thing our nursery is missing is photos to fill in the empty frames (I plan on putting in some newborn shots) and bringing her books in from Red’s room. Everything else is washed, in place and ready to go. That is, until I find something I forgot about (more than plausible), or I bring more crap into the room (inevitable).
The weekend we found out it was a girl, my Mom and I ran out to the store and registered for a ton of pink crap and things we knew we needed for a second baby. Our list wasn’t that big, but included some extremely fun items like this blush pink, spindle, Jenny Lind crib. It’s so pale pink that you almost don’t notice it, but it’s super sweet. Backed by white woven blackout curtains and built-in bookshelves, the crib nook feels soft. The crib is also on very small casters, so I can roll and lock the crib away from the wall (or anywhere else it needs to be).
The sheet set came from Land of Nod, and has a nest pattern on the fitted sheet, and soft black and white ruffles for the bed skirt. The bear you see sitting there was mine when I was a baby; there is a knob on her chest that when turned, has the sound of a heartbeat. My mom was really thoughtful to keep it all of these years.
A few years ago, I had the great pleasure of hosting a first round #Disneyside party, and handed out to each guest the pink Will Gay print you see below. I’ve had it in an envelope since then, waiting for the right time and place to hang it. When I happened to see Will Gay’s social feed featuring his new print “Castle Flight,” I knew I had to have it. I tackled the labyrinth of phone mazes to the Art Collectibles at Disney and ordered one over the phone. I was almost afraid of how much it would cost, since it’s a limited edition and professionally matted…. but I HAD to have it.
The two prints are framed and sit over the dresser and rocking nook I know I’ll be spending many a night in, very soon.
Two other prints that hang over the desk/changing table are from Nordstrom, about 4 years ago when they released a limited edition Small World series. You received a print with each outfit you bought. As you might be able to tell, Red had two of them. 🙂
Now to the good stuff… I’ve been calling our next bundle of joy “Baby Girl” for a while now. While we’ve decided on her real world name, I wanted to give her something a little more “Redhead Baby Mama” for the ol’ blog. I’ve decided to call her Scarlett here! It’s a name from one of my favorite books, depicts a strong woman who knows her own mind and doesn’t like to take crap from anyone. A classic beauty!
“But what if she doesn’t have red hair?!”, you say? It doesn’t matter to me. In fact, the real world Scarletts I’ve known have all been blondes, and it evokes the spirit of the blog’s name. I originally named the blog for Red’s hair (which slowly turned a little more strawberry than pumpkin) but even if Baby Girl comes out a blonde, or even rarer with our gene matchup, a brunette, I won’t change the blog name. 🙂
What’s your favorite part of our eclectic, understated – Disney nursery?
Beautiful nursery and I love her name!!
The Up Castle print is fantastic and so worth it! Love.
I love the nursery, love the name, and love that you get to name her twice!!
So cute!! I love the nursery. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s special and has meaning to you all as a family. Also, I adore the name Scarlett. I’m in DC right now with my sister and her Baby Girl. Can’t wait to see picture of your sweet baby doll. So exciting! EEEEK!
I love the nursery! My sister just found out she is having a girl. However, she is struggling with names. I love Scarlett.
Congrats! Yes, if we didn’t pick it in real life, I love it for a blog name.
Beautiful nursery! I love the Will Gay prints!
Thank you!! I think they are my favorite part of the room right now.
