I remember hearing as a child that all moms have eyes in the backs of their heads. And, I thought, it must be true. For how else did she always know what I was up to? Now that I’m a mom myself, I get it. Most of the time I know what my child is about to do, ready to start, or the mischief that’s about to occur. Yet as much as my sixth mom-sense does for me, I still need more eyes on the ground. With two kids, I certainly can’t be in two places at once, listen out for work, cries, laughs, and danger at the same time (even though that’s pretty much a mom’s job description…). I’ve been using a baby monitor since Red was little to help me out. Besides using it in the obvious place (crib!), I’ve taken it on vacation to see a playroom, used it on the porch while I cleaned up outside, and sometimes, poised it in the den to watch my kids working on something while they thought I was occupied.
While I loved my “new fangled” video monitor when Red was a baby, I hadn’t seen too much in the way or improvements, additions or anything that made me want to “upgrade” my monitor with our new brood of two. I was given the opportunity to review the Baby’s Journey Smart Sync baby monitor to see how it might help me keep track of important details. The Baby’s Journey monitor merges the expected functionality of a video monitor with the capabilities of a smart phone and together, the two functions pair to create a helpful log of your baby’s growth, milestones and special moments as well as give me those much-needed extra set of eyes that I needed.
Baby’s Journey is an innovative children’s products maker and together with AT&T, launched a new baby monitor line that provides intelligent information about baby’s goings-on. My first impression was that Baby’s Journey and AT&T had merged our smartphones with a baby monitor and gave me the slim design paired with the functions I use everyday. The Baby’s Journey smart sync baby monitor took about 20 minutes to set up out of the box, which almost felt like a lifetime to me. It features an LED touch screen, so factory test and calibrations, as well as wi-fi set up, and social media accounts needed tending. Though I finally got it up despite running between running back and forth to the kids, the monitor performed smoothly both in light and dark rooms, and has what I consider to be premium sound I’ve not heard in a monitor before. Other features include Wi-Fi connectivity, built-in rechargeable battery, easy night viewing with infrared LED’s and compatibility with any service provider.
The parent monitor is extra slim and fairly touch responsive. You can set the volume and power with the touch of an external button and take photos right from the video input (in case of some very cute sleep positions). I really enjoy is the photo option, but while I occasionally share on social media, I wish there was a way to download them to my computer or phone without first getting them through the app that comes with the monitor. I don’t necessarily want to share pictures of Scarlett escaping her crib (I’m sure the day will come!) on twitter as much as I just want to text them to my Mom.
By far the neatest thing the monitor offers is the ability to transform your smart phone into an additional monitor feed or offer guest viewing. My husband, while at work, can check in on baby’s nap or see a little note we left for him, though I’m not sure what we would use the guest feed option for; it seems too private to share! However, with the 5” Touch Screen I can always keep an eye on the kids track Scarlett’s important activities (feedings, diapers, milestones, medicine reminders, etc.) directly on the monitor or through the free AT&T Smart Sync Mobile App. The touch screen monitor and app automatically sync, providing a seamless viewing and tracking experience.
The monitors are now available online and in-store at Babies “R” Us locations. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/ATTSmartSync

I love how far baby monitors have come. Back in the day, they were just grainy audio monitors. Now I can sync my smartphone with it.

Moms have no idea how lucky they are to live in a day and age where baby monitors actually monitor! When my kids were little, I had a grainy audio monitor that could only loosely be said to actually monitor anything.

Wow! This sounds like an amazing product. Might have to get something like this for when my teenager starts dating. I’m kind of kidding but an more serious than I think I should be. Ha ha ha!

I LOVE the fact you can use your smart phone as an extra monitor. That is forward thinking and so vital to today’s parent!

No kidding – I didn’t know about that feature until I started really playing with it.

My sister currently uses two monitors, one for my 3 year old nephew and another for my 3 month old nephew. A model with this type of technology would really help her out.

That looks like a great way to keep an eye on baby. If I ever have another one, I am definitely checking this out.

Baby monitors today are so different. I would have loved to have one with a camera. This would be a great baby shower gift.

Monitors have come such a long way since my first son was born many years ago. I love that parents can see their children from their smart phones when they can’t be with them. My son and his wife do that with their sweet baby girl when she is at day care. 🙂

I did not have a baby monitor when the kids were babies. This would have been such a help back then!
