Since I’ve been to Walt Disney World a few times this year, I’ve perused the souvenirs a few times and brought some choice items home. I made sure to take back to the parks those useful, fun, items like ear hats, autograph books and my favorite trading pins that help make my visits that much more fun. And though those items are certainly souvenirs, my greatest Disney souvenir and most worth-while purchase is one that I will hang on my wall forever.
When you’re visiting the Magic Kingdom (a must-go each time I’m at the Walt Disney World Resort), be sure to walk down main street and turn left after you scarf a hot dog from Casey Jr.’s. In fact, if you’re super familiar with the park’s layout, follow the reverse route of the 3pm parade (anyone know what time that starts?? 😉 ) to Liberty Square. After you cross over the bridge, on your left, you will see a single cart parked next to a colonial porch. Stop in your tracks.
This, my friends, is where you can purchase an old-fashioned silhouette. For only about $8 you can get one silhouette, facing two directions, mounted, signed and gorgeous. For only $7.95 you can have the black oval frame to match. Get it; it’s totally worth it, because you won’t find that frame at that price in any store at home. You’ll get out of dodge with a beautiful framed silhouette (and a matching reverse pose) for under $16.
Worried your baby won’t sit still? Think Pop will be too distracted? You’d be amazed how fast this is. Cutting the silhouette takes all of 2-3 minutes and rolling and framing the same. It’s so fast, so worthwhile, I can’t recommend it more. Also, pro tip: Find Mr. Jim. That’s him in the photo below. He’s the absolute best, and any cast member will tell you the same. He was on lunch after we had Scarlett done and came back with Red, and I made sure to wait for him. I’m glad I did!
I hung our silhouettes in the front hall, because they are just too pretty to put away. See Mr. Jim’s signature in the corners? And the exquisite work he did in only a few literal moments. Red’s eyelashes, the curve of his collar. Scarlett’s baby curls and even the ribbon on the front of her Snow White dress. He caught all the important nuances and yet left Red’s unruly stray hairs out. For $16, I’m flabbergasted. I’m honored to have had him capture my children.
You’ve simply got to get to Liberty Square, if only just to see him work. I promise it will be the best Disney souvenir you’ll ever bring home.
These are precious.
I am proud to have cut silhouettes at DisneyWorld and Disneyland. Now I am allowed more detailed at events. The park was Bert strict about not doing details and rushing them out. I am proud to say I was the top producer for them in history. 600 people in a day and no two the same.
Those are the sweetest things ever. The next time we visit Disney, I’ve got to swing by that booth.
Ohhh this would be such a great idea and it’s near our favorite Witches funnel cakes there in Magic Kingdom! YUM! I’ve been wanting to get my kids silhouettes done before they get too much older and I love the details his keen eye picked up! Great artwork!
A simple silhouette with no even hair details. interior details. Katheryn, at DisneyWorld dies more. That’s the difference. Not all buses should be the same.
I’ve been to Disney twice and I am not sure how I missed this! The silhouettes are really an amazing keepsake. I’ll have to get one on our next visit!
I have been to Disney so many times and always see this cart. I always say oh I should get one, but never do. I really need to get one!
When my daughter was in preschool, they had silhouette artist come to the school. There definitely was not as much detail as in these! I love this, what an amazing keepsake.
These are awesome. The price is great too! $16.. that is amazing. I haven’t ever been to Disney but if I ever get the chance I’d love to get something like this!
Those silhouettes are so adorable. I would love to have something like this done.
I love these so much! Such a great memory of your trip.
What an awesome thing to have! I love when you spend money on something only to realize it’s the best ever memory item for you!
What a super cute souvenir to have! I love the idea of something like this to cherish the moment forever.
This is definitely a great souvenir idea, and one that will last far longer than a typical keychain or magnet. I need to see if they have something similar on the West coast, since Disneyland is actually our go-to park.
My mom still has silhouettes of us from a Disney trip a LONG time ago! I need to get silhouettes of my kiddos the next time we go to Disney!
Thankfully we heard about that cart before we went on our first trip… the year of our girls 4th birthday. We had one done for each of them. Love them and I smile each time I look at them on the wall.
I have one of those from when I was a child. And I am sure that x number of years ago when my parents paid to have it done it cost more than the $8.00 . Great find!!
How cool! They look great on the wall. I love that they have services like this at Disney World.
We have those for each of our kids! They make such lovely keepsakes. Plus, you can’t beat the price!
The silhouettes are wonderful memories. Somewhere I have a Mickey Mouse 3-D card showing the castle. My other favorite remembrance is a picture of my younger sister sitting outside Narnia. I am a Magic Kingdom girl and love it on both sides of the states.
How cute the souvenir in the wall its so precious. you’re so lucky to have this.
Thank you for covering people like him, I admire and appreciate little corners of the world that give out the best gifts and things. I’m sure I’ll be visiting Mr. Jim sometime soon, I hope!
The souvenir you got from Disney is very unique. I love it, such a great choice! You have a souvenir and a wall decor at the same time.
I totally love silhouettes – they’re so awesome! I’ve never been to Magic Kingdom, but I’ll have to check these out when I go!
I had one made of my second oldest son years ago. I still treasure it and he’s 22 now. 🙂
I love this idea. We have been to Disney many times I will have to check this out when we go again.
Mr. Jim did ours too! He was on Main Street when he saw him in April 2016. When we go back in November we are buying 2 more frames so we can give the 2nd silos to Grandma for Christmas.
I’m sitting here tearing up a bit, because I have those same frames up on my walls of my kids from our 2016 trip. Such a good souvenir.
Oh, I love this!!! They are SUCH wonderful reminders of the trip but also how quickly they can grow! <3 <3
