I don’t think I’ve introduced our newest addition to the family! It’s been raining so much lately in Atlanta we’ve had record rainfall, and last night was no exception. I even made a joke on Facebook about taking our new pet for a walk.
Who is this pet, you ask? It’s Kevin, the Betta fish. He was a very sweet gift from my parents to Red on the occasion of Scarlett’s birth, and Red is very happy to have him. He helps to feed Kevin each time, watching him snap up the betta pellets rather quickly.
Kevin is named for the mythical “Snipe” bird in UP, and Red handed out the moniker himself. (I say if we had gotten Kevin only a few weeks later his name would have absolutely been Darth Vader…). Recently, in about his 40 billionth change of water, I caught Kevin doing something Betta fish only do when they are very happy and satisfied; a betta blowing bubbles.
They tend to make bubble nests out of hundreds of tiny bubbles they blow themselves. Kevin’s bowl was lined with them, collecting in the far corner. I could almost see Kevin beaming with pride over his accomplishment.
How long must that have taken him?!?! Sadly, I had to change his water again to make his bowl clean (and Kitty has a terrible habit of drinking out of his bowl…) so no one gets sick, and the bubbles got tossed. Now the waiting game begins to see when he builds his next nest!
