Hubs and I have been doing a great job brushing Red’s teeth as of February 2013. Why did she say that? Did she not brush her kid’s teeth BEFORE that???
Well, yes, we tried. But it resulted in a screaming FIT of death and wriggly post-bath mess. So honestly, most nights we gave up or didn’t do it at all. I used to give Red a baby toothbrush to teethe on at night, and called that a brushing. After all, the brush was IN his mouth, wasn’t it?
In February, E came to visit for a few weeks, and he was an accomplished tooth-brusher. Monkey see, monkey do. Red at least let me put the brush IN!
After that, I got some toddler fluoride free toothpaste in a dye-free berry flavor. That was the real kicker – the toothpaste was fun to taste, and was interesting. Cue the brushing of the teeth every night and now he happily, says, “Teeth!!!” when it’s time for the chore.
I’m so relieved that Red is on the path to good dental hygiene. Every night that we have a complete brushing is a wonderful, routine victory. Is there something that your child fought you on? Leave me a comment!
no explanation needed and no judging on this end. if the toothbrush even touched Red’s mouth – that counted! glad he has embraced routine brushing. dental problems are way too expensive. The Boy fought (and still fights) me on taking liquid cough medicine. not fun at all.
My son doe not fight me on too much but this girl will not take medicine I have tried hiding it in cups, bribing her with dessert, a toy nothing works *sigh*
hopefully one day she’ll wake up and not fight anymore. It seems like that’s what Red did. I hope it works for you!
yes, liquid medicine can be one of the hardest things! I find giving it from a syringe works better than a cup for us, with a drink to wash it down. Any other tips, pass them on!!
