I’m very pleased (and proud) to tell you that I’ve dragged my family (happily, I might add!) to the Christmas Light drive-through in Atlanta for the last several years. This is the third, if not fourth iteration to visit my home city, and I love it each time. The holiday music piped through our local radio station, the larger-than-life displays, the CHOREOGRAPHED dancing lights… it’s all so magical.
This year, the theme was Enchanted Safari, as the holidays come to the jungle, and we trek through the deep sea, the lands before time, and Santa’s menagerie as the holidays grow closer. The lights are always impressive, but this year really took the cake. Candy Cane Lane was one of the first visiting themes, and while the idea of dancing gingerbread is really tops on my list, the “old-fashioned” bulbs sometimes went out, or you could spot the few that had failed, even early in the season. Amongst one billion lights, it’s bound to happen.
BUT…
AND I MEAN BUT… THIS YEAR, YOU GUYS.
This year was unmatched. The replacement LED, smooth bulbs lit up nearly to a blinding level, with ANIMATED singing setups, tv-screen like sheets of lights that created falling snow, snowmen waving, and more. Each panel was really expertly fashioned and artfully programmed to make THE BEST show I have seen to date. You’ll have to visit my Instagram stories and reels to see the magic that we spotted as we drove along the way. Check out these Ursula-like tentacles holding presents!
PLEASE take your family through the World of Illumination lights – the price is per car, so pack in the kiddos or grandparents, and even bring the family dog (we brought Lady), since it’s all from the comfort of your vehicle. Shut off your headlights, roll down the windows, and GRIN for the whole ride through. My personal advice? Go early in the season, or early in the evening, to avoid the backups and lines. Yes, the “slotted” arrival times do help control traffic a little bit, but lines will still form. Pack holiday Oreos and festive gear in the car to entertain the kiddos before you reach the starting line! I promise y’all will all love it!
Here’s a little video I made with some of our footage from the ride, as well as some from World of Illumination to get you excited about the upcoming show! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
