Based on the Scholastic Book Series “Clifford the Big Red Dog” by Norman Bridwell, a new family film has hit theaters and Paramount+!
The Clifford the Big Red Dog film landed early this November, so we took advantage of the upcoming holiday time to screen it with the kids… But I got more than I bargained for with what I expected to be a cliché of a film.
How Clifford the Big Red Dog Enchanted my Daughter
Our family had the pleasure of screening the new children’s movie upon its release. The classic storybooks came to life in a more realistic manner, combining live-action with computer animation. As a grown parent, I found the movie suited to little kids. The tired “kidnapper gets the special pet and now we have to rescue him” drama was expected and played out, but what really struck me was that Scarlett was 100% entralled with the movie.
Her mind didn’t see the cliches of story or film elements… she saw true love for a pet, which really pawed at her heart. When it came time to sum up the movie, she couldn’t stop talking about it. “I loved Clifford – he was cute and little – but then he got big!” She insisted on taking our new Clifford plush up to her room to meet “Bunny,” and reading her new graphic novel to him, page by page.
Clifford then came to all her afternoon activities in the following weeks, making it so hard to take a darn photo of him by himself that eventually, I caved in and had Scarlett direct the session!
My older kid still enjoyed the movie, “I loved the storyline. It was sweet and touching,” was how he summed it up.
