I remember when the summer season started this year. Our mommy’s helper was already signed up for her au pair session abroad, Mother’s Morning Out was officially over, and Red was home with 3 months to tick off our summer bucket list. Sure, since he wasn’t really in “school” this past year, and it wasn’t too much of a change in schedule, but I was excited to spend more time with him. The summer flew by, and I made sure to schedule some extra fun stuff just before Red’s first week of pre-school began. We took a mama-son trip to the aquarium, seeing only what Red asked for, and lingering at each tank until he has his fill. We splashed and jumped in our backyard pool a few times, just to take advantage of the weather, and got some awesome lunch dates in.
One of the most fun things we did was to schedule an outing with GrandMartha and Granddaddy (Hubs’ grandparents). It had been weeks since we had seen them, and even though it was summer, vacations, work and other things kept us from meeting up. We journeyed across the interstate to take them out to lunch (they ended up taking us!), and had a great time. Not only did Red get to hug some sweet necks, we also got Ice Dream cones to end our meal. If it’s one thing this little guy loves, it’s ice cream. Take a look at that face as he gulped it down (with some much needed assistance from Hubs).

Granddaddy made sure to get a cone, too. Three redheaded Paris boys (and their ladies!) taking on summer’s best dessert at the same table. It’s the stuff you simply must catch on camera to keep forever. The smiles and love we got from that trip were perfect and I hope that we can have another lunch date before the fall rolls around. Our family is so lucky to have them so closeby! Thank you, Granddaddy and GrandMartha, for an awesome lunch, and loving Red so much!
Now that Red is off to his first day of school, our routine will change, work starts up again at school for me, and there’s a ton to be done around the house. I think I’m ready for a little time to work around the house while Red enjoys his new classes in the morning. What part of the back-to-school routine are you most looking forward to?
Those days are long behind me, but I still like the Fall because it seems like a new beginning to me. Now if I just had some of that beautiful Fall color to signal its arrival.
I feel like that is what we are doing to. I am trying to soak up every last drop!
Sounds like you had a lovely time, the only thing I am honestly looking forward to is being able to get my to do list shorter lol.
I can’t believe you guys go back so early down there. We still have another month! Looks like you made the most of your weekend, though!
We still have a couple of weeks before school starts (and that’s when my husband will head back to work full-time.) I’m ready for our normal routine. Right now it’s a free for all as far as who is going to take the toddler to daycare, and it just gets chaotic!
I am looking forward to my kids being able to get back to routine. I need a break too!
We did the same thing! It was like a mad dash to the finish line to squeeze in the last activities!
I didn’t even do a quick cram in school crept up on us out of the blue and now we have started. Oh well I plan on doing more on the weekends with them this winter as long as its not to cold.
I can’t believe school is already starting. Where did Summer go?
I can’t believe back to school is here already. It doesn’t even feel like we’ve been through a whole summer!
So many kids are going back to school this week. Here in New England they don’t go back until after Labor day or the end of August. My a daughter goes back on 8/27. So 3 more weeks of her being bored & me trying to figure out what to do with her. Stopping by from Mommy & Me Monday. http://therantingsofadramaqueensmum.blogspot.com
I can’t believe it’s already time for the kids to hit the books again. There were so many things we had planned that just never came to fruition. Time really does fly.
I can’t believe Summer is nearly over. Say it isn’t so!
MY kids started back to school today. We definitely did a “cram it all in” weekend. The girls had friends over for movies and pizza up until 8 last night, talk about squeezing every minute out of their summer.
Because everyone needs a ice cream cone! Kiddo starts back in Sept so we have a little bit yet.
Because my son has autism, just having the back-to-school routine will bring back much needed routine and structure in our home, not to mention peace and quiet when I need it for blogging. It’s so hard to get work done with all four kids home!
We do year-round schooling for my autistic son. He just started 5 weeks off today and it’s hard. All his medical appointments were held in school so we didn’t have to traipse all over the city every day, but we’ll make do until September when he starts back up.
As a Northener I cannot believe people start school in August! We are over a month away from that, the kid is away at camp and then we have a 12 day vacation! We will be cramming it all in as well!
I have a kid who isn’t crazy about ice cream. When he was little he really despised it. I am excited to get back to homeschooling!
Sounds like it was a full weekend. I’m an empty nester so I don’t have to worry about back to school stuff, fortunately.
School starts so early for you guys! We don’t go out till September. I haven’t even begun to think about back to school as yet.
I love getting back to a regular schedule with my teenager home in bed (or in her room, at least). This will be the last back to school for me!
Since we don’t have kids, back-to-school doesn’t really impact me. I do, however, need to make an extra allowance for my commute to work!
How adorable! I love how you wanted him to have that last little bit of fun before schooling started back!
I am so gald I homeschool. I am so not ready for school to start again. We are going to start in about 3 weeks.
Not ready for my son to go back to school. I didn’t get done what I would have liked to with my kids this summer. Maybe next summer.
