I was treated to a yummy dinner and a fabulous room full of great Atlanta attractions who met and greeted me. Some offered complimentary tickets or tours in exchange for Public Relations.
This past weekend, our family had SO much fun. The great people at Discover Atlanta hosted a fabulous get together at the Ruth Chris steakhouse in Midtown. Other bloggers I’ve gotten to know as well as new ones were mixing together with tasty light cocktails and yummy hors d’oeuvres while we speculated what the nearing expo would hold. The drink of the evening was the Tennessee Honeysuckle, a honey bourbon and muddled blueberry based drink that was so good; I only wish I had asked how to make it!
And the MEAT! The other bloggers and I joked that all the men in the room only wanted the great selections at the meat carving stations… I mean, hey, who could turn down these tasty bites?!
I got to give some squeezes to some folks I hadn’t seen in months, and love to pieces. Do you have friends like that? Magnetic personalities that you can pick right back up with? Lori at Expedition Mom is like that with me. She draws out all the good trouble in me and is not afraid to laugh all night long!
The next morning, I gathered my boys up and we headed to Turner Field. The Atlanta Parent Blogger Expo was held in the swanky 755 atop the outfield of the stadium. Giant glass windows show the baseball field in all its fabulous glory. Red was very taken with the flags, pennants, colors and the overwhelming size of the stadium.
The only thing more exciting than Turner Field? All the goodies and surprises waiting for us in the Expo Room! Atlanta family attractions such as Six Flags, The Georgia Aquarium, Fernbank Museum, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Center for Puppetry Arts and Zoo Atlanta greeted us with mascots, banners, brochures and friendly faces. Red got some great interaction not only with Bugs Bunny, but Giggy the Dino, a real live turtle and hedgehog, Freddy the Atlanta Falcon, a personal kazoo lesson from Imagine It! Museum, “Anderson Cooper” at CNN, and the folks at Stone Mountain handed him a light up butterfly!
I got to meet the young little hedgehog, and while she was still learning to be around guests (a no-touch animal for now) she didn’t want to play croquet with me (heh heh… a little Wonderland humor for ya), so I got some sweet sniffs and some eye contact instead.
Outside of the Expo, a team of Atlanta firefighters greeted children with a touch-a-truck experience, and come even stopped to take photos with us. Thanks guys, for keeping us safe in our city!
Of course, our first trip to Turner Field with Red wouldn’t be complete with a few stadium pictures. Hubs was over the moon that the Braves team gave Red a hat and he absolutely loved it. Go Braves! Since Red’s 3rd birthday is coming up, we stopped to take a photo with the jersey number “3”, too. It’s still tough to get this 2 year old to hold still for much. At least I got a smile!
Are you excited to hear more about what the city of Atlanta can offer you this summer? There’s a new activity every week for your family; Always something new! Make sure to keep stopping back by the blog in the coming weeks for more on Atlanta experiences and things to see!
You are soooo speedy! Great hanging out with you on Friday night and fab write up! Looks like you had an awesome day after the event!
