By having a little boy, I have discovered almost all of them love cars, planes and trains. Pretty much anything on wheels is fair game for playing, traveling or building a pretend city. Monsters, legos and even sibling’s barbies are taken for rides and crashed off cliffs while their drivers squeal with delight. When I found out that the HIGH museum was debuting the Dream Cars exhibit, I was really excited about it. Being an artsy household, I really want Red to grow up and have an appreciation for art, history and design, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity for us. But could Red handle it? Being the wild, red-headed 3 year old, I didn’t know if he could stand not touching, climbing or pawing at the cars. He needed to be strapped into the stroller, for sure.
The exhibit was fairly, small, with around 25 cars, all sizes, makes, models and years. Here’s a little more from the HIGH website: … The experimental, concept, or “dream car,” as it became known in the early 1950s, has long been a dynamic tool allowing designers to showcase and demonstrate forward-thinking automotive design ideas. Concept cars were not objects the public typically could purchase, but rather the testing ground for innovations that might find expression in automobiles produced decades later. This exhibition explores the innovative designs that sparked ideas of future possibility and progress.
When Red saw the “rocket” car, he almost lost his mind, trying to slide out of the stroller, screaming, reaching, crying big fat tears for the American made Firebird I. “Plane car! Plane car! Mama, NEED IT,” he cried, drawing the attention of almost everyone in the exhibit. I wanted to be mortified and run him out of the exhibit. Instead, I got down on his level and talked with him about the car. It barely worked, and as soon as we were out of eyesight, the screaming resumed.
It’s safe to say that he loved the exhibit, and I’m lucky as a dog that the stroller has a seatbelt. I actually enjoyed the cars, too. The 1930s was my favorite era for the automobile, and I could easily see myself driving around in those fabulous little designs.
Take a look at the little video mashup of the Cars being installed (inside look) into the exhibit as well as other photos we took while we were visiting. (click here to see the video).

Such a cool place! This is a dream land for little boys (and big boys).
What a cool looking exhibit! I thought about brining the girls, but we are a little too noisy for the HIGH!
I’m so glad that you guys are starting to get Red to try different foods. My hubs really like Game of Thrones as well. His favorite characters are Jon Snow and Tyrion. Who does your hubs like and have you guys watched the season finale yet?!
My son would be the same (I don’t know if we’d survive most events without a seatbelt on the stroller!) These cars look really cool!
That does look like a happy fathers day. It looks like you guys got a little bit of all the fun things I think about doing on fathers day.
What a nice Father’s Day you all had. We gave my husband a Fitbit. He just lost 50 pounds and we wanted to celebrate by encouraging him to stay healthy and fit.
Wow, those cars look awesome. Looks like heaven for little (and big) boys
What a cool museum. Red must have loved it, a perfect haven for boys!

Haha – I can just imagine why the seatbelt came in handy 🙂 What a cool exhibit – I should feature it on my car blog one day!
I’ve heard of this place…I might need to take my nephew and see if he is interested!
Those cars are so cool and I love all the different looks. But, I must agree with your baby that the “rocket car” is totally a must have!
That looks like fun! Love all the different cars, especially the funky ones!
What a great place to visit, my boys would LOVE to visit a place like that, but sadly I would not trust the younger one … he likes to be very hands on with his curious hands …
Now that’s how you celebrate Father’s Day. It looks like he enjoyed himself. It’s always fun to spoil DAD!
How fun! What a perfect first museum!
When I read that he had to be strapped in the stroller, I smiled and nodded. When I saw the picture of him leaning way forward on the strap and pointing happily, I laughed. It looks like a great day!
It looks like he was super excited! What a fun experience for him!
I think that is a pretty cool car! I am not sure I could drive it though! It looks super long! But does that mean there is a super big trunk?
I can see why he would have been drawn to the “plane car”. Those are awfully neat! Good idea to start with a museum that’s not overwhelming also.
Wow, this is awesome, I love those cars, I would say he has great taste also!
Very cool! I know my son would love this “museum”. To them, this isn’t really a museum 😉
Aww, sounds like an awesome day. Sweet pics!
I’m happy that Red is getting less picky. We are still fighting that battle over here…
My son would be fascinated with those cars! What stunners. Cool trip!
those are some unique looking cars.I’m not a car person but even i can appreciate their beauty
Wow, that car doesn’t even look like anything I’ve ever seen. Super awesome for sure!
My husband walked by, looked at my screen, saw the red car, and said “What is that? It’s cool!”. Sounds like a winner to me.
Aww Happy Father’s Day to him, great pictures. We didn’t really do much, just hung out at home. We celebrate Father’s Day along with my hubby’s B-day.
