The night is dark and full of terrors. Killers. Usurpers. Knights and Kings. Prophesies, Princesses, and Dragons. Despite the page-turner books, the high-budget spectacle and the ultimate in character payoff, we still crave more from Game of Thrones. The newest episodes are set to debut during this hot 2017 summer when we will see villains eviler than ever before, and perhaps storylines beyond those that exist in the current novels.
During previous season of Game of Thrones, I had created my Mother of Dragonfruit cocktail in honor of Team Khaleesi, but this year, I’m celebrating another one of my favorite characters of Game of Thrones, Margaery Tyrell. If you aren’t familiar with her, she is has been described as “as clever as she is beautiful,” which increases over her involvement in the storylines. She and her Grandmother tend to align with who they see as the “winners” in a fight but are loyal to House Tyrell until death… I won’t leave you with any more hints, spoilers, or otherwise!
This Margaery Tyrell inspired martini is a dark and stormy color, reminiscent of rain clouds, which is why I chose to dedicate the Stormy Night Martini to her. The Game of Thrones celebratory cocktail reminds us that the “night is dark and full of terrors,” but at the same time is light and elegant. Search for and sit with the winning side with House Tyrell while you sip this delicate martini.

Some of the ingredients to make this colorful cocktail can be hard to find, such as the Blue Island pucker, so you may have to go to a larger store such as Total Wine and More to locate it. Some basic items, such as sour mix and lemon slices, a well-stocked bar cabinet will already have. There was a restaurant in Atlanta (Wildfire) that offered this cocktail (long since deceased), and while the ingredients were listed on the menu, the proportions remained a mystery to me. I can only guess that I’m copycatting it correctly.
In equal parts, measure out and mix the Sweet and Sour Mix, Black Cherry Vodka, Blue Island and Watermelon Pucker and lots of fresh ice. Shake well to combine and chill.
At some point, you may want to add a dash of lavender syrup for a more purple color and slight sweetness. Strain well a chilled standard martini glass and garnish as desired.
Many have said that this drink tastes like a purple jolly rancher, but with a slightly sweet and sour tang that can only be had with this cocktail! It’s a favorite among my friends during get-togethers, and I know the Stormy Night Martini will be a new staple of your Game of Thrones showings!

I’m in! This looks tasty!
That is such a pretty drink! Can’t wait to try it!
This drink originated in Chicago at The Wildfire restaurant. One of my favorites…
Yeah AND Wildfire named it Stormy Night well before GOT…
Come on author… you didn’t name or design this cocktail give Wildfire credit for doing the work.
Oh wow – that’s cool… it’s awesome how this drink came from Chicago! This inspired recipe came from a restaurant here in Atlanta about a decade ago, and while they listed the ingredients, I have no idea what the proportions were. That, and what the restaurant’s name was!!
Yeah it’s a very tasty drink! Like I said it is one of my favorites-I actually came upon it by accident with the Martini flight they offer at Wildfire-and I have been hooked ever since- and its been about 15 years. They have the ingredients listed on the “flight paper” so I took it home and practiced until i got it just right and I serve it for my special guest! Cheers!
PS-they have a nice apple martini where they line the glass with cinnamon sugar… : )
It was Wildfire in the Atlanta area. They closed.
How much lavendar syrup?
My mom would say a dollop – you may only need 1T at most.
There was a Wildfire in Dunwoody. So it was part of the chain regardless. Please give them credit.
I’ve been going to the Wildfire in Oakbrook, Illinois for almost 30 years and the Stormy Night has always been in the menu and always has been my favorite. I do make them at home and there is no sweet and sour mix in them
Isn’t it funny how different locations make it their own? Cheers!
