It’s time to plan your holiday cards! I’m seeing lots of friends scheduling family photos, or collecting pictures from their favorite moments during the year. While our family is no exception, (I love our cards from when the kiddos were little) I want to share the top trends in Holiday Cards with you before you settle on your choice for this holiday season. I’m lining up the top 6 trends in holiday cards with help from Minted.com.
Announcements
Holiday cards aren’t only for wishing festive greetings! Use this opportunity to update your friends and family on your new move, new family member, celebrations or upcoming news. In 2014, we were able to share our pregnancy news, and in 2015 our move to a new home. It’s easy to combine sharing your new address and holiday wishes.
Function
Collecting cards throughout the holiday season can be fun, but also a little daunting. What do you do with scads of cards that just sit on the countertop? Stick out from the crowd with a little function over form and try Ornament Holiday Cards. They come pre-cut and strung so those on your card list can decorate their tree with family greetings!
Collages
Collages are a great way to include all your favorite photos from the year in your holiday card. If you had a family photo session and can’t pick just one photo, this is a fun option that’s breaking the rules on the one-photo Christmas card trend. Add some graphics, a feel-good message and don’t forget to add the year. I like to look back on past cards and note what year it was when my son lost his first tooth!
Booklettes
There have been times that even a collage won’t suffice to share our yearly adventures. Booklettes offer a fun way to feature both your favorite photos AND narrate your entire year. A cool new way to incorporate several pages of photos and stories are Minted’s booklettes. It’s a great alternative to your one-page story that needs some sprucing.
Metallics
Foil-Pressed Holiday Cards are as trendy as seasonal jewels or buttery-soft leggings. Take a note from your new necklace and include some real gold foil or silver sparkles in your holiday cards. If you’re feeling extra metallic, choose an envelope with a foil liner to reflect your card’s patina.
Making it Easy
There’s no trend I like better than one that cuts out the work for me. Free Address Printing takes the (literal wrist) pain out of addressing your holiday cards, as well as the time it takes! Imagine receiving your stack of cards, just needing envelope stuffing and stamping (though they can do that for you, too!) I take a moment each time an address changes to update my guest book and the rest is printed for me! Plus, the super fancy decorations on the front of the envelopes put my 5th-grade calligraphy skills to shame. Isn’t that “special delivery” awesome?
Think it takes too long to design a card? It doesn’t. With Minted’s guided process, you won’t forget anything, down to the express service which allows a fast, free printing and delivery two days faster than if you used the professional proof service. If the holidays are already getting to be “too much,” you can also purchase holiday cards now and personalize them later. You can take advantage of a special sale or promotion and come back to finish personalizing with photos, text, or addresses, even after the promotion has expired.

Our family tradition is a New Years card instead of Christmas. Normally we use Shutterfly but have been loving minted ever since our wedding back in March.
