How to “Assemble” an Awesome Avengers Party #AvengersUnite

It’s coming: the next Avengers movie is right around the corner! My addiction to these superheroes began way back when Red was born, with the release of Thor (Swoon!).  Soon afterwards, I began eating up all the Avenger’s individual movies until The Avengers was released in 2012.  I loved it, and so did Chase.  When Red was old enough to enjoy superheroes, he too, started appreciating the power of the Hulk, the Hammer of Thor, and most recently, Iron Man’s high-tech gear!  With MARVEL’S The Avengers: Age of Ultron just a few weeks away, our family is gearing up for a big celebration.  We hosted some of our friends to an Avengers Party with all the trimmings and themed snacks. If you’re looking to “assemble” an Avengers Party of your own, check out our  games, snacks and activities!

How to Assemble an Avengers Party #AvengersUnite

It was fairly easy to find everything I needed for the Avengers Party at Walmart.  Although my store didn’t have a central Avengers display, it was easy to find my  party elements since the awesome superhero packaging leapt out at me! I grabbed Dr. Pepper, Cheese-Its, fruit snacks and Doritos, all themed up with our favorite Avengers.  Even the party supplies section boasted plates, napkins, posters and other fun goodies that fit right in with my #AvengersUnite theme.  Score!  I found what I needed so quickly that I had a chance to skip over to the toy section and grab a few surprises for our games and a special Captain America shield for Red to play with.

Popcorn Bar, Snacks & Drinks

Avengers Party Food

Every party needs some great food, and I thought a build-your-own popcorn bar was perfect for our Avengers movie marathon.  Buttered popcorn starts as the base of the movie munchies, and each of my guests was urged to select toppings to match the theme of their favorite Avenger.

Avengers Party Popcorn Bar

I had lots of candies, treats and toppings to choose from, and it was a lot of fun to see which Avenger was the most popular (or at least the tastiest!). Want to make your own popcorn bar? Try popcorn addition and toppings like these:

  • Iron Man Arc Reactors: Circle twizzler bites in various flavors
  • Thor’s hammerheads: Coconut topped marshmallows
  • Hawkeye: Chocolate covered pretzels
  • Hulk’s Smash: Green kool-aid flavoring
  • Black Widow: Pomegranate covered chocolate bites
  • Nick Fury’s Eyepatches: Mini York Peppermint patties
  • Ultron’s Mix: Peanut Butter M&Ms

One of the most popular bowls of snacks was the Captain America’s Crunch.  A Muddy Buddies recipe topped with red and blue candies creates a red, white, and blue snack that’s irresistible.  Red scooped his cup into the bowl several times before I made him stop! (And truth be told, I’m hoarding what little leftovers there are!)

I made sure to create a fun drink, too! One of my favorite party drinks is a lime sherbert based recipe, and that matches the Hulk’s skin tone perfectly.  Guests were served with blue paper straws and encouraged to try our Avengers Dr. Pepper, too!

Movie Marathon and Dress Up

While munching on movie snacks, our party guests dressed up as their favorite Avengers (Masks, toys, and special temporary tattoos!) and screened specially purchased versions of The Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America and some scenes from Thor (How can you NOT include Thor?!).  I think the kids loved playing parts and mimicking all the flying, crashing, and heroic deeds.

You can also make this adorable CAPSICLE: Captain America Frozen Cocktail that my friend Krystyn created. It’s perfect for celebrating the Infinity War Series!

Avengers Themed Games

While some folks enjoyed the marathon, others got busy with the games and crafts!  I made a special HULK SMASH prize board where guests could “win” a prize by smashing through tissue paper and pulling out a card with a prize on it.  Plain paper bags were taped to the back of the tri-fold board and green hulk tissue paper for prize card pockets, which included Avengers puzzles, small toys, and a big DVD prize of The Avengers! Even the adults loved smashing through the board… it was really fun!

I also turned a basic Avengers wall hanging into a pinning game! I made Arc Reactors out of paper and had my guests close their eyes and try to Pin the Arc Reactor on Iron Man. The littlest of our guests actually came the closest, and it was a great way to include some more games into the party!

For even more Avengers fun, try downloading the Super Heroes Assemble app, available in the iTunes and Google Play store starting on April 15th.  What was your favorite part of our Avengers party? Let me know how are you planning to celebrate the release of MARVEL’S The Avengers: Age of Ultron with your friends and family!
