Less Waste in your School Lunch with Yummi Pouches

Disclaimer: I received a 4 pack of Yummi Pouches to add to our lunches as part of a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Now that Red’s in school a few days a week, we’re packing him lunches. Whatever he’s eating at the moment gets packed, and that can include leftovers from last night, casseroles, chicken or fish, crackers, yogurts or cereal bars. (Man, that sounds way less carb-y that it really is.  Having a toddler that woke up one morning and decided he wasn’t eating veggies anymore was a challenge!)
Less Waste in School lunches with Yummi Pouch
Trying my best to go green-er than I was requires many baby steps. One of them was to start purchasing LARGE jars of yogurt or applesauce and pack portions into re-useable, washable pouches like the Yummi Pouch.  The freezer and dishwasher safe pouches are BPA free and stand up by themselves for easy filling and cleaning.  I’ll easily make 4 of them on Sunday night, toss them in the freezer, and they act as little ice packs for Red’s lunchbox! (Plus no need for a spoon to wash or lose).
How to pack a school lunch
Pouring gloppy vanilla yogurt from a large jar isn’t the easiest thing, but with a spoon and a steady hand, I can get it through the wide top zipper opening and seal the Yummi Pouches shut. For applesauce, I routinely make use of a funnel.  That’s not to say that I’m not wiping up after myself… because I am.  If there wasn’t an expandable gusset on the bottom of the pouch, I would be lost.  It also makes them easier to clean and stack upside down onto the dishwasher pegs for cleaning.

When we’ve used the Yummi pouches to the point that they are crumbling in our hands (and that will take quite a few lunches) they are fully recyclable. GOING GREEN, baby!

That is a great lunch box/kit. I love it.

And, a hint about filling them (I will be talking about it in my post as soon as I get it up), use a turkey baster to fill them. Especially if you are doing a couple at a time!

Why didn’t I think of that?! Brilliant!

Try some nuggets – they keep really well until lunch and a freezable yogurt or applesauce turns into your icepack!
