I’ve figured out that a good way to keep on running and walking is to set a goal for myself. I’m not talking about a “timed” goal, or even “I’ll walk this much a day” goal, but a markable, tangible goal. Like walk and part-jog the Big Peach 5K.
The Dirty Girl race was nice and untimed, but mostly an obstacle course. Hubs had found Cinco De Mayo 5K that fell on Red’s birthday, and so we trained and loaded the bebe up in the jogging stroller early that morning.
Anyone with little children knows that getting up, packed, and to a race before the gun goes off at 8am can be a problem. Little ones don’t always follow your plans. But, Red is an awesome amazing baby that went with the flow, and we arrived 10 minutes early to find our team.
The Big Peach Running Co. sponsored this walk/run to raise funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma. We ran with a team made of our coworkers and friends, although as soon as we started, we kept our own paces until the end.
One of Hubs’ co workers was so thoughtful he brought Red a stuffed Cheetah (you know, because we were running!) and a birthday card with Mickey on it (I happen to be a Disney Freak).
With sunscreen and safari hat on, we took off when the gun started. We were timed according to our shoe tags. Hubs ran the entire thing and clock in at an excellent 26:00. Being a part walker, I got a self-best at 37:00. We were in the middle of the pack.
TrueSpeed Photo was on hand and snapped these proofs of us running towards the finish line. I love that we got some shots! They wer very nice and have great prices – I recommend them if you are planning a race! We’re hoping to run a few more 5Ks this summer and into the fall – do goals help you guys keep fit? We’re hoping to make this our new lifestyle!
