I ran my first 5K last weekend, the day after my birthday. But it wasn’t your average 5K. It was the Dirty Girl 5K Mud Run, benefiting breast cancer. Held in over 10 cities across the US, Go Dirty Girl sets up a 5K course with at least 6 obstacles, including a mud crawl, water pit, tire step, and cargo nets reaching a good 16 feet off the ground.
My neighbor, Kaci and I, decided we were really going to go for it! I trained by walking with Red nearly every day over the big hills in and around our home. Kaci got us knee socks and matching pink shorts to wear. We got pumped up the morning of the race by hanging out with Red and asking him, “How Big are You?” He wished us good luck while Hubs snapped a few shots of us while we were still very, very, clean.
Kaci laughs that she chose this pose to commemorate the event 🙂
Hubs and Red didn’t get to see us run the whole thing, but they have a viewing area set up around the rope pull up and down a steep but short hill. In the tie dye shirts, you can see the photographers they camped around the route. I’m hoping we got some awesome shots!
Trying to emulate the dirty girl pose. We’re dirty… so much mud! So much fun!
We took our time getting to the final mud pit at the finish line. Another team was basking in the mud and taking photos.
After racing through, we’re finally covered from head to toe!
After the race, I got to love on my Redhead Baby. He almost didn’t recognize me through all the mud! Hubs said many families in the viewing area kept cheering when their mamas and sisters and friends came through, and Red raised his hands up to help cheer. But the smiles broke through when we came down 🙂
Muddy kisses, too.
I think some pro shots will be up later this week. I’ll keep you updated. And as they say, dirty girls aren’t born, they’re made! I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Looks like fun. My sister did one last year and loved it.

It was great! A lot of dirty water, not so much mud on this Atlanta run. It was down in the lakewood Amphitheater – you should go next year!
