Mommy and Me Dates

Baby Girl is getting closer and closer, and I’m pretty sure that Red really understands this. It might be on a more primal, unconscious level, but I can see it.  He’s much more clingy, needs Mama more often than anyone else, and is much quicker to share unsolicited hugs and kisses all day long (for Daddy, too!)  As I’m sure any mother of soon-to-be-two, I’m a little worried that Red might feel pushed off when we bring the new baby home. I have plans to keep him as involved as possible, as this kid loves having “a job” to do and gets great pleasure in helping Mama and Daddy do anything, but it’s still something I think about everyday.

Because I know I’ll be taking close care of Baby Girl when she’s born, I’m trying to spend a little more time with Red on Mommy and Me Dates, lunches or even just craft time at home.  And buddy, is Red enjoying it.  We’ve made paper bag monsters, colored, played LEGOS (a new obsession), gone to lunch and visited the aquarium with our freshly renewed passes.

Even Chase is making some extra time to spend with Red. They’ve signed up for some local workshops to build toys together, taking neighborhood walks and headed to the pool for a few hours of swimming every other day.  It really makes me so happy to see my boys playing together and enjoying each other’s company. (And I know those moments to myself are once again going to become super rare).

In the meantime, I’ll be 35 weeks tomorrow, and feeling every ounce of it.  I’m so ready for July to get here!

Amelia was an only child for almost SIX years when Andrew was born, and she was (still is!) my super special girl. I was terrified to hurt her feelings and worried so much about how she would take things. She has done well and I know Red will too. It’s so hard to find time for the less needy child when baby is around, but it is always a great gesture and they love it. Even 10 minutes of playtime can make a big difference. Good luck!

He will do great! He will be able to understand and articulate more, too, which helps a lot.

Love that you are getting some dates in.
