Big Brother Man. He’s the superhero to protect “baby sister;” helping to gather items and generally try to keep himself out of trouble when Mama and Daddy are otherwise occupied.
With Red’s springtime fascination with the Avengers, superheroes are starting to take a lead role in his imagination and playtime. Naturally, harnessing the goodwill, deed-doing power of a superhero was something we wanted to do. When Red and I made masks and armbands from a great birthday present, Red wanted to keep them around for ages. So, Chase used them as a base for “Big Brother Man.” His job was to help with Scarlett and protect her from everything. It’s working!
Especially at bath time, Red is reaching for his superhero accessories to help Daddy bend over the bathtub, wanting to play a part in caring for his new sibling. And speaking of Daddy, Chase is doing an amazing job spending extra time with Red; heading to the park, movie-going, flying planes and floating bubbles outside in the consuming Georgia heat. Since I’m so attached to a newborn and taking the time to heal properly, it’s more difficult for me to detach from underneath Scarlett and spend as much time with Red as I want to. And the hormones… ugh. From being frustrated with his frustration to falling into a blubbery mess when he tells me, “Oh Mama. I lost you at the hospital!”, it’s all a journey for me. When I’m not nursing at bedtime, I’m really liking continuing our bedtime story reading with Red. Reading will always be big with us.
I know Red likes taking pictures, too. Selfies, regular shots, and inserting himself into blog photography. It’s a great way to get in on the picture and get him to smile. Which, in turn, makes me smile. 🙂
I’m joining in on M0mmy and Me Monday with the Really are you Serious? blog.
You forgot his powers! Strong like the HULK! Brave like CAPTAIN AMERICA! Smart like IRON MAN! Good looking like THOR! (I guess… we really haven’t addressed where Thor falls in to Big Brother Man’s mythos…)
