This past weekend Hubs watched Red nearly all day long while I got to out with my friend erranding for the house and work – hi-ho the glamourous life! But really, it was so nice to hang out with my awesome friend and be by ourselves.
That night, Hubs got a little time off to play his video games upstairs in the man cave while I followed Red crawling around the house. It was kinda fun to see where he’d go (and to take baby proofing notes as we went along). It’s a straight fact that Hubs’ video games are loud, guns exploding, (manly) orchestral-singing extravaganzas, and Red easily observed this, too. He heard Daddy upstairs and decided that’s where he should go.
Red has been crawling around very quickly and he made short work of getting over to the staircase. I followed behind him, letting him be brave and explore, but ready to catch him if he fell.
Honestly, I didn’t think he could get up more than 1 or 2 stairs. Red put his hands up first, and then the leg hitch followed. Up one stair. He looked back for approval. Hands up, leg hitch. Two stairs. I thought he’d quit or get tired. Nope. A few seconds later, hands up, leg hitch.
I wanted to document this as much as I could, but with Hubs upstairs, I was solely responsible for safety. So I took pictures with the phone in my pocket, and after Red got up more than one stair, I kept a hand ready behind him.
I’m glad I did, too. Red doesn’t really understand that if you want to sit down on a stair, you could fall down. It doesn’t quite work like the wide level floor does. So I held him up until he wanted to continue his climb.
A good 20 minutes later, Red finished his 14-stair journey and got to the top. Hubs was really surprised to see him as I announced our ascent. And impressed, too! Then Red crawled across the room to help play video games.
Dooley was highly unimpressed, and continued napping like a dead dog.
Not that it’s worth too much, I got a few second of video captured of Red trying to climb, and then becoming more interested in hamming it up for the camera than stair climbing. It’s a good thing this stairwell is covered with a door. No baby gates needed.
And now a little video…. sorry for the portrait orientation. I was too busy trying to keep safety first to realize the phone was in the wrong direction. I know this bugs Hubs to death – sorry, babe!
