I had the great pleasure of having Sarah from The Ugly Duckling House over this weekend to have some fun with a photo shoot. She needed some new photos to freshen up her site, and I was willing to wave the camera around at her until we got a few good ones. Click here to visit her post and see my shout-out! She’s a super talented DIY Home Improvement Gal, and her projects routinely make me drool. She’s like my own personal Pinterest!
Sarah brought loads of her own props, and since I don’t go near flames (outside the stove) or blades that are sharp & independently whirling, I don’t own many tools fancier than a hammer.
Also worth noting: Sarah had a model/companion near her at all times. Doo. Dooley wanted to lay on the sheets that served as our backdrop, and snuggle Sarah’s feet. We had to routinely shoo roll him out of the way of the chairs and shots!
Note: this was the LAST clear photo the camera took |
Sarah also brought some cool Annie Sloan chalk paint that can be used as a wash on furniture. She got it in her goody bag at her Haven Conference. Sarah let me paint her hair and face with it – FUN! And it washes out with shampoo (used with water for dilution when painting).
When I wanted to get more shots of our process, my personal camera FAILED. I am currently working with Hubs’ old point-and-shoot camera (after he dropped mine at a tailgate!!) and it’s starting to have a mind of it’s own. This week, when you want to take a still shot, it revert to camcorder mode. Now, it refuses to focus (see shot of Sarah below). You’ll even notice that the chalk picture above was a bit fuzzy. I think it’s time for a new camera, and maybe I’ll make Sarah take a few photos of me, too (with her fancy DSLR)!
Head over to her blog to see our handiwork!
