Create the Perfect Blanket Fort for Movie Night #PopSecretForts

Thanks to Pop Secret for sponsoring our blanket fort and our snacks.  Red’s love for popcorn and all my opinions are real!

With Hubs and I being in the film and television business, you can bet our family has more than a few movie nights a month.  We’re constantly screening new titles, finding new content and sharing our family-friendly finds with Red.  Sometimes, we like to mix it up with snacks or new environments like pallets or our newest love, blanket forts! With a few chairs, our favorite pillows and a flashlight, even a movie we’ve seen 900 times becomes a little more exciting with our own blanket fort.  Red and Chase picked up some microwave popcorn for our movie night while I set up the perfect blanket fort for my little guy, complete with furry rug and TMNT pillow (vintage from the 80s!).

To say that Red was overwhelmed when he came back would be an understatement.  In fact, even Dooley got in the fort and snuggled down.  (Red was more than pleased to have a buddy in the blanket fort!)  Sadly, the Doo had to move when our Pop Secret popcorn snack was done… popcorn isn’t very good for dog’s tummies.

It only took a few minutes to make our movie theatre butter (which I hadn’t had in forever… and was sooooo good) Pop Secret popcorn, and I put it in a giant bowl our whole family could share.  The real secret to a perfectly popped bag is to listen for the popping slowdown… when it hits 2 seconds between pops, hit the power and it will be perfect!

Pop Secret Popcorn Popped

While we might not be making blanket forts every movie night, it’s a really special way to forget the cold of winter or the rainy days outside and imagine a perfect space for yourself.  Try decorating the inside with your favorite stuffed animals, and grab flashlights, lanterns or a small light to illuminate your cavern.  Turn on your flick and watch your kid’s eyes light up like the silver screen!

Pop Secret knows that fun, like popcorn, is better when it’s shared. Send Pop Secret your pillow fort stories and pictures on Facebook. You can upload them right to the Pop Secret timeline and tag them #PopSecretForts. They might just share a little something back, like a mystery prize!

My sister and I would have been ALL over this when we were little! My daughter’s still too small to get the coolness that is a blanket fort (she’d probably just tear it down), but I can’t wait to do this with her when she’s bigger!

My brother and I certainly made our share of forts and monster traps when I was a kid. You’re right – it’s hard to do this with little kids because all they want to do is tear it down!

So cute! We had lots of fun building our fort over the weekend. He used it for two days before I finally had to get the living room back in order. 🙂

This sounds like a really great idea I need to schedule it in for the weekend, this is even doable with a sick kid.

It’s PERFECT for a sick kid. After you’ve built it, sometimes watching a movie and “feeding the fever” are all you want to do!

Oh, what a fun idea! Our first is due in March, and I cannot wait to do something like this with her because building forts, no matter how old you are, is awesome! And it’s even more fun when you make it into a movie night!

YES! Had I not put away the Xmas lights so fast, I would have dug out a string and put it inside… That would have been like a drive in!
