Okay, folks. We finished the three day potty training program, all the way through the night, and into today.
At the beginning of day 3 (Wednesday), Red had two accidents, one full and one half (made it to the potty with half). Overall, he still needed lots of prompting all day to remember when to go. When night fell, he whispered, “pee pee” out loud and dashed to the potty – I followed as quickly as I could.
I did a “ninja pee” an hour and a half after bed time (this is where I stealthily remove Red from his crib asleep, magically remove the underpants and place him on the potty where he nearly pees in his sleep. Then return to crib after sleepily replacing pants) and while he did have an accident during the night, we made it to the potty at 6:15am when he woke up.
There was no crib climbing last night, or during the subsequent nap times. Hooray!! 🙂 Much happiness!!
Today was July 4th, a very happy holiday, because we had NO/NONE/NADA accidents. A few times Red grabbed ahold of himself and ran. Once he called out to the general public, “pee pee”! There was still no #2 to catch – mostly because I think he’s being watched all day long and that makes him fairly uncomfortable.
So, was the 3 day method a rousing success for us? No, I don’t think it was perfect. Mainly because we had a form of PT going before we dove it, and you should either go in cold turkey, or take a looong break before starting. It is taking us a little longer because of this. Maybe we need 5 days until he really calls out every time, or comes to get us. But lordy, he is getting it. And I couldn’t be prouder!
….now let’s see what happens when we encounter the #2s…….

Wow, sounds like it’s going well! I was too scared to ditch diapers until I was sure my daughter was completely potty-trained, at 3 years old. It seems like this method works a lot better and quicker though, I’ll have to try it with my second. 🙂

It works best for girls, or those boys who are coming in COLD turkey with no training. Red is taking 4.5 days, but he’s catching on!
