Skyscraper Cocktail with Pomegranate, Orange, and Ginger

“If you can’t fix it with Duct Tape, you’re not using enough duct tape.” This single line from Dwayne Johnson’s SKYSCRAPER was hilarious. As all good entertainment themes do, the duct tape reappears in the film as a subtle calling card to the previous joke and made me want to go home and take a personal inventory of my tape collection. Johnson’s calling card of friendly humor diffused tense situations in the film without detracting from the story. His action-packed new film is a fresh tale featuring amazing stunts that had my movie theatre OOHing, OUCHing, and WOAHing in their seats.

The Skyscraper Movie Run Time is a fly-by 1 hr 49 minutes, which makes it seem short for all the action it packs, but each stunt and sequence is meaningful to the plot, which is more than I can say for this film’s contemporary colleagues. Rated PG-13 for sequences of gun violence and action, and for brief strong language, SKYSCRAPER is indeed a movie for teens and up, but it’s fiery colors and good use of green screen make it a pretty one, too. In fact, the colors and smokey haze from the film were the inspiration for my Skyscraper Cocktail. 

This cocktail comes together easily with on-hand common ingredients like Orange Juice, Ginger Ale, and Vodka. The twist of POM juice lends a sweetness to the bitter bite of fiery orange while the Ginger Ale adds lift and zest. It’s perfect for outdoor entertaining. Just be sure to keep your fire extinguisher handy. The added smokey flavor gleaned from a torched board smothered by your glass will impress your guests and make you feel like you’re trapped above the fire line!
