There are a lot of things around the house that I can’t have: pretty repetitive vases, neatly arranged magazines. Clear counter space. No laundry. Pretty bedspreads. The floor to stay clean longer than 30 minutes.
During an extremely trying and splashy bath with Red, I had to stop yesterday to realize this little man will soon be a giant, tall, grown-up man. The floor may not be squeaky clean or company-ready, and that’s ok right now. This little guy wants to dance with me and Woody to The Hot Dog Dance. He won’t want to do this in ten more years, and definitely not in fifteen more years.
That made me think of all the things that I DO have that (for the time being) make up for the other stuff: these big splashy bathtimes, snuggles with giant smiles, giggles, and the daily adventures with a tiny human.
It was my stop and smell the roses moment. Or the applesauce – whatever works.

As a mother of TWO redheaded babies, I totally get this, and have had several of these moments over the last (almost) four years, with each kid. Although my son is becoming quite a tank these days and thus difficult to hold, I am relishing the times at night when he wakes up, begging for more snuggles. There’s something heartwarming and heart melting about the way he’ll lay his head on my shoulder, and just …be….
Enjoy! And, yes, stop and smell the applesauce! π

Love this! It is so important to count our blessings, even if they are not always so obvious. I try to think about how I will miss my daughter’s snuggles one day when she begs to climb on my lap when blogging inspiration strikes… I’m so glad that you have a positive outlook, and thank you for the reminder!

aaawww – that photo is priceless. It’s convincing me that I need to do these Mommy Monday photos π I was just thinking today that I want to tape my kids running to greet me at the door when I come home b/c they won’t be doing that too much longer I suppose π

Very true. I’ve been trying to be more patient with the house and relish these little things. Hubs had to help me stop and snuggle!

Thank you! Yes, you should totally have a camera set up – you don’t have to share it with anyone, but what a special reminder to have on those rough days!!

You’re right. They grow so fast.
My son wants to be with me 24/7 and I’m learning to love it.
I even tell myself “One day he’ll be away at college, then you’ll year for these days!”

Yes I have had those moments too. Remembering they will be growing up and doing their own thing soon calms my complaints. I want to enjoy the time I have with them.
