Turkey Tree Topper Craft

Remember how I trolled my Dad with the Squirrel gift guide? Well, it sort of was awesome (totally awesome!!!) but also a hilarious fail because he LOVED IT. And now I’m wondering which terrible squirrel loving gift to get him. I had such a genuinely fun time pranking my Dad that I didn’t really want to stop. That same day,  a small Xmas tree I had ordered was delivered. I was so proud of my timely and affordable find that I didn’t want to cram it in the attic for three weeks and wait for “Christmas decorations season,” so I found a workaround that was conveniently also an opportunity to troll my husband…

That’s right. I made a Thanksgiving tree, in all it’s pre-lit and seasonal glory. With all the Thanksgiving paper crafts and ornaments Red has brought home in the past few years, it was easy to fill the small tree with decorations. I also lit my hair on fire and decided I would string homemade popcorn chains while Chase was off to work and the children were screaming and running around. Because, you know… priorities. But the end result made the kids so happy and Chase’s side eye game so strong, it was worth it. See how I created a giant Turkey Tree Topper with only a few paper bags and a glue gun!

The Turkey Tree ornaments also consisted of fun foam leaves I found at Michael’s. On Thanksgiving, I’ll have our family write what we are thankful for on them and re-hang them in the tree. The $5 pack had over 30 leaves, so we’re set for many years to come!

Chase’s face was CLASSIC when he got home from a long day of work to stare at this Xmas tree turned Turkey. I got PLENTY of side eye, and I was giggling all the way up the stairs. I’ll dismantle the Thanksgiving ornaments and the Turkey Tree Topper into a box for next Thanksgiving, and set up all the Disney ornaments I set aside last year (which is the real need for a second tree). But for now, guests will see the soft glow of my seasonal prank of Chase, for which we are all thankful! 🙂

We made the turkey this year too. The kids loved doing it and we loved having it as the table centerpiece.
