Phew. I’ve been back from my first blogging conference, Type A Parent, for over a week, and I’m still trying to implement all the information I’ve learned. I’m still trying to absorb it. Three days of professional sessions, expo mingling, brand meetups, hands on workshops and working lunches meant that I collapsed on a chair Sunday night and instantly fell asleep to a TV show full of yelling, gunfire and explosions. Literally. I was that tired.
I took about half a notebook full of great tricks, tips, and made a thousand future plans for the blog. Hopefully, I will be able to implement them in the next 6 months and share a greater reach with you. Maybe even another blog facelift!! But, even though there was a LOT of work going on, there were long dinner breaks, and that meant getting together with old friends and a bunch of new ones! Nearly every local Georgia blogger got together Friday night and we all had some yummy drinks and dinner together.
We had some tastebud tingling food at Tavern at Phipps – if you’re a nachos fan, you MUST try one of the several versions of the gourmet Tavern Chips. They are sure to please you, or the whole table in the style of an appetizer.
Back at the ranch, I got to meet Dorothy Hamil, the 1970s figure skater. She spoke to us on Osteoarthritis, which was particularly poignant with me and my brand of arthritis. It’s nice to know that there are other people out there that share your afflictions. If you want more info on her program, Get Moving, America, check out the facebook page.
Historical celebrities aside, there were more of my blogging idols there! I met Roo of Neon Fresh, in the flesh after I took her workshop, and she’s super nice! And just as funny and goofy in person as she is in her writing. I’ll admit, I didn’t know what to do with myself, and nerded out a little bit.
And I was SO glad that I booked a hotel room for one late night at the conference, so I could make an even better friend in Lori at Expedition Mom. She’s super sweet, sassy, and sarcastic, which is pretty much my inner self trying to get out all the time. She gets my humor, thinks I’m a total nerd, and she’s awesome. We may have smuggled some beverages into the hotel and had girl talk between cocktail hour soirees. There was a Disney Parks Star Wars Reception party, which was amazing!! Yes, those ARE light up Mickey ears on my head (and I got to take them HOME!) that light up in correspondence with whatever Disney attraction I might be on! Lori and I took bunches of photos, but in a dimly light lightsabered room, only a few actually came out!
Type A Conference was a wonderfully small, highly intense, valuable 3 day weekend, and they are in Atlanta again next year. Will you be there?! Let’s plan a lunch! (And a big fat nap for when the conference is over… I’m still recovering from the long hours!)
