My brother, Tyler, is in the Coast Guard. I’m extremely proud of what he’s accomplished since he joined, gaining various levels of information clearance, serving in AK, SC, NJ, FL and now, on his way back to Alaska… His service in Key West, Florida has drawn to a close, and due to his most recent promotion (Congrats, Ty!!) and the few areas of availability for his position, he’s off to the frozen north. (Maybe he’ll see Elsa?)
On his epic road trip through the contiguous U.S., we were really lucky to see him. He drove up to Atlanta and stayed over night with us, heading to breakfast and sitting with Red, showing him how to deal with a tri-color crayon, and even bringing him alligator prizes from Florida to play with. Can you ask for a better uncle than that?!
Sadly, it was time for him to continue his journey all too soon, and we’re not sure about the next time we’ll see him. I hate that. But I’m very happy we got to spend this time with him! Red was even happier, riding in his big truck and really being goofy. He even got all teary eyed when Tyler pulled away from our house, asking for “Uncle Ty” later that day. It’s hard to explain why we can’t see him all the time, because Uncle Ty is keeping America safe.
Drive safe, Tyler, and keep an eye on your mailbox when you reach your final destination. We love you!

What a great destination for the summer. Not so sure about the winter. Brrr! Glad he was able to make a stop and hang out, despite how brief it was.
