Visiting Grandmother

You may have read last week about our trip to Anderson, SC to visit Grandmother and Granddaddy.  Well, a few days after our trip, both Grandmother and Granddaddy went out to get a little lunch – and they fell.  Grandmother broke her hip in 2 places, and now is in rehab for 100 days to help heal and learn to walk again.
It’s gotten to the point where they can’t really live alone anymore, and need some help to cook and clean.  Red and I make a quick emergency trip up there to visit Grandmother while she was in the hospital.  I was so proud of her – over 2 hours in the gym learning to transfer weight, work out her arms, and practice flexing.  When we got back to her room, she was worn out, but smiling harder that I had ever seen her smile in all my life.
I think some of that had to do with the fact that I brought Red with me.  She grinned and said to her nurse, “That’s my family!”  I would have let Red sit in her lap normally, but a) He’s too heavy, b) her hip is broken and c) Red is too much of a wiggle worm.  Although she did ask…
He gave her big hugs ( a new thing Hubs taught him) and held her hand and caught some photos.
My Mom has been over there for a straight week helping take care of them and going above and beyond to help prepare a smaller apartment for them.  Thank you, Mom!  Please keep Grandmother in your thoughts, as well as Granddaddy.  He visits at least twice a day, but is lonely now at home while she recovers!

Oh, I’m praying she beats the 100 days and heals even faster. It’s amazing what a positive spirit can do.

And, how could Red not make her smile?
