Summer is nearly here, and we are getting our household ready to go! I’ve been on the road a lot this late spring, and I’m ready for the rest and relaxation a summer vacation will bring. Heck, just give me a trip to the park or the pool, and I’ll be happy! The kids are growing and that means summer wardrobes have to be restocked, revamped and generally bolstered with staples. Shoes are a big one for us; a southern summer means sandals, and I need shoes for the kids that will help them withstand the heat and support Scarlett’s movement; I can tell she will be crawling any day now!
I usually shop for shoes in person here in Atlanta, but with a slew of my local stores closing, it’s harder and harder for me to find small business-made, quality footwear that fits. Fortunately, I found a sweet little company online (it started in Seattle) that literally supports children’s feet, gives to charity, AND has cute packaging. See Kai Run shoes offer a Babies line featuring true crib booties for ages 0-18 months, Smaller Steps with durable soles for those taking their very first steps, Toddler shoes for sizes 4-9 (washable Runners!) and lastly Big Kids, shoes in whole and half sizes.
I chose these shoes for Red: The Mackinac Sandal in Green (his absolute favorite color). The washable sandals have three adjustable straps, which were roomy enough for his wide feet, but could easily accommodate slender feet without miles of extra velcro. While I do wish the straps were a little longer, or perhaps available in a wide version, Red and I were both very satisfied with the comfort of the shoe. They were easy to travel in, as he wore them to the airport, through the Disney Magical Express experience and onto the property with nary a complaint. In fact, he was showing them off to anyone that had eyeballs, and even asked a few people to look at them.
When we arrived to Disney’s Beach Club, Red was immediately taken by the little “beach” on the back of the property. He ran out to the sandy shoreline in his sandals to gape at the Boardwalk hotel in the background. The washable nature of his summer sandals meant that he could wade in the surf, find his footing in the sand, and have his feet rinsed in one go on the boardwalk. It was seamless for him, stress-free, and easy for me!
For Scarlett, I chose the Cynthia sandal, which is silvery with pretty little applique flowers. The Georgia heat can be mighty oppressive, so having a shoes with “vents” and open air while also supporting her while she *gulp* learns to walk was important to me. It’s a breathable shoe with an adjustable velcro tab, so I had no problem choosing these little beauties to match most of her summer wardrobe.
If you have trouble choosing your size (I know I have LOTS of anxiety about choosing the right size when I can’t shop in person), See Kai Run has a very cool size guide printable chart, on which you can place your child’s foot (sans socks or with) to choose a size. I will have to say that it’s very accurate and the directions are easy to follow and well worded.
The company also runs the Hustle Kindness program which provides 10% of proceeds from select shoes to support Peach’s Neet Feet. You can learn more about that program here. A special thank you to See Kai Run for supplying the winner of the Rafflecopter below with a pair of shoes (winner’s choice of size and style). Be sure to enter and try your hand for a pair of awesome kid’s shoes!
