I got a call from a theatre friend that the Atlanta Ballet was looking for overhire to help with an upcoming production and I was super excited that they accepted my help. It was my first time on an Industrial Machine (Bernina 950) in a shop, although I had sewn on them in other circumstances before. That sucker was FAST, and I was sewing silk, so I’ll be the first to admit the quality of my work slipped (no pun intended) when the silks started flying. The tension is looser and there are less variables than my current machine (Bernina Aurora 430).
Needless to say, there was a TON of work that needed to be done and I didn’t have time to fiddle with a new machine and get used to it, and the rats tails of thread! (below) I unpacked my Bernina and made quick work of all the silk linings.
I also found some new tools I hadn’t seen before and I now highly covet. A Gingher thread picker, and this magnetic bobbin holder – genuis!
After two days last week, I’m excited to put a few more in until dress rehearsal arrives. Thank you, Atlanta Ballet, Costume Director Tamara, and Brad for the pleasure of working with you!
