Date Night Idea: Live Concert

Planning Date Nights this year has been SO MUCH FUN. 6 months of the year, it’s up to me to plan one date night, snag a babysitter, and drag my spouse along for whatever I want to do. He gets to pick what he wants to do, as evidenced by our 2017 date night rules. We’ve painted, blown glass, been golfing, recreated our very first date, and gone to a Braves baseball game. You may know that I design and sew costumes, but what you may not know is that my favorite client is an Elton John impersonator. I get to flex my sequins and bejewel coats until I’m blind, but I adore it. Rarely having a concert at “home,” Sir Elton hosted a local gig inside an intimate venue to benefit Austism Speaks and I was there faster than a speeding ticket. I really loved being able to see my work live on stage, and hey… he REALLY sounds like Elton!

A fun little perk at the concert was the stationing of The Cocktail Truck, a libations food truck hosting signature cocktails for the evening, a full bar and even frozen daiquiris. I was in heaven! We took a Lyft in order to partake of the specials, and danced our feet off in the small audience! I loved watching Chase sing along to all the old tunes (we adore the 7-s, 80s, and 90s!) and wiggling in his seat.

The concert was about two hours, which passed too quickly with costume changes and a few mixed drinks. The small audience made LARGE amounts of noise for our favorite performer, and raised over $3K via personal piano-side serenades for Autism Speaks!

Chase and I got to talk while in line for the Cocktail Truck, dance and sing together, and really have a good time. One of the no-gos for date nights is a movie. Because being stuck in a chair, silent for 2.5 hours doesn’t really develop a relationship… dancing and singing? Well, that’s another one of our first dates, and we laughed a LOT. I count this intimate live concert as a win in the Date Night Ideas book!

Sounds like such a fun show. And a great date night, too. You’ll have to let me know if he does a local show again.
